I went to work last week as the ADON of my facility at the end of the day I was told my position had been eliminated due to budget cuts. That was it...........they offered me 2 floor nursing positions for the remainder of August and said they had only 2 shifts for me on the September....................what the heck?

I"m not sure how legal this is but it's also specific to your facility. You would have to further investigate by looking at the policy and procedures manual of your facility. On that note, have you ever considered travel nursing? I have done it and found it to be a rewarding career, I know it isn't for everyone but it's an option for you at this present time. There are various companies and in making your deicsion is based on your specific needs. I'm sorry for the situation that you find yourself in. :-(

If you're in an at-will state, then yes they can do this. There's no guarantee that they will keep you employed for any reason. If you have a contract that specifies otherwise, that's a different matter.

Stinks, and I'd be doing a little checking around to see if I was being told the truth, or if they wanted me out for another reason. Was anyone else cut in this budgetary crisis?

did they at least give you a 2-4 week notice?

call up unemployment...i think you may be able to collect until you find another job.

wow.

i'm sorry.

Can they do this? Yes. Anyone's job can end at any time. At least they offered you an alternative position. You know why? Because if you file for unemployment benefits, they've fulfilled the state requirement of attempting to keep you gainfully employed. It will look like your decision to terminate your employment not theirs.
