2013 Camp

Posted

Specializes in Home Health (PDN), Camp Nursing. Has 9 years experience.

Well I just signed my 2013 contract. I just can't seem to stop this camp thing. Is anyone else signed or working towards their summer job?

I'm stalking the Girl Scout Council's employment page, waiting for the seasonal application to show up. It says 'coming in January' but I keep looking anyway!

Yup -- just hired for my FIRST camp job! The position has been offered but we have yet to finalize details. The camp Director is pushing for an "even trade" for my 3 children's tuition for two weeks but I feel I should be requesting $$ too as I'm soley responsible for 150-200 camper 24/6, 7th day off.

Any insight on your own experience or what I should expect?

I got an offer, but does 2 days off (in a row) for the entire 4 weeks sound right to you? The pay is a lot lower than I was hoping. I've emailed asking if this was the best offer they had for me. Meanwhile other applications are out there in various stages of progress.

I looked on Craigslist and did a search on google for camps and looked @ their websites and sent info. It's actually easy to find opportunities... Hit the Internet!! :)

I've never trained tuition for work so I can't help there. However I agree check the Internet. DO NOT go through an agency. They take your money for no reason.

Hey Al, I just completed my application to your camp! I had started it several weeks ago, but, you know, you can't rush these things! ;D

Well I hope I goes well! Thu are starting to staff now, but it won't start in earnest until the head nurse gets back from her winter spot in PR.

I will be going back to Camp Quinipet in Shelter Island, NY to work for one week. I have 2 weeks vacation from my regular job and my kids have been talking about going back to camp non stop since last summer, so we'll be spending a week at camp! I'm really looking forward to going back.

I am working at a Boy Scout camp this summer. I use to work there when I was younger. I had a goal to work at least one summer. I got a job as the first ever full time cub scout camp nurse so I get to setup my building and everything from scratch. Both nervous and excited since I have to meet my state and the Boy Scouts of America's policies.

Arron where in the USA will you be at? Also if you are going to be a solo nurse, on your first run I really recommend the Basics of Camp Nursing by Linda Ebner. I enjoy working with the scouts, I run a yearly first aid derby here in central pa.

I found my spring and summer camp nursing jobs on the "nonprofit jobs" section on Craigslist. I also picked up a camp issue of a couple parenting magazines and went on the websites of the advertised/featured camps.

I can't tell you where I work or I would have to hunt you down! We are off to a good start, with weekend groups scheduled all spring. I have been fortunate in finding great nurses this year, and am fully staffed. I wish you all the best this summer, and do not hesitate to contact me if I can help.

I am a school nurse doing her first summer camp gig! I'll be travelling with my son from Texas to eastern PA. This will be the first summer he will be old enough to go to camp. Found the job on the ACN website. We are both looking forward to the experience.
