Last year I signed up to be a camp nurse at an action sports camp. My daughter is a gymnast and was able to attend for free. I worked with 2 other nurses who did this yearly at various camps around the country. I thought it was such a great idea; sign up to work as a nurse for the week and take your kids to camp! I had such a great time working there and my daughter enjoyed camp so much! I plan on going back this year with 2 of my children and I can't wait!
Does anyone else do this?

I also did this over the summer. It was arranged through a friend and I'm not sure that they will need me this year. I would like to do it again. My daughter is 9. Any ideas on how to go about finding a camp to work at?
Thanks!

I did two summers at Girl Scout camp, manyyyyy years ago. Its a blast!
Try both Boy and Girl Scout camps, they always need staff but don't pay much.
In the back of various nursing magazines there are ads for jobs, some have a camp listing as well.

I did camp nursing this year for the first time. I went to camp with my 3 children, and my niece and we had a ball. I plan to go back this year to a camp in New jersey, and new york. I went on the American camping association website, uploaded my resume and was contacted by camps all over the U.S. I chose NJ andNY because it was close to home, 3 hours. I look forward to next summer and so do my children.
That's helpful, thanks ERIKADAWN~

I've done camp nursing at two different camps - one was really great, the other a drag. Be sure to ask about time off. At one of the camps I was the only nurse, and never even got to the pool. At the other, there were 3 nurses, and we rotated 'shifts' and overnight duty. We actually got large portions of the day free about every third day. These days the med call is huge, especially with so many kids on behavioral meds.

Good places to look are the American Camp Assoc web site or the Assoc for Camp Nurses web site. I have also worked for the Global Youth Village before, but I think the youngest age for children to attend is 14. Great camp to work for though.... about 50% of teens are from other countries, and interestingly enough, tend not to be on so many RX meds, but have the additional chanllenges (which I liked), of having to factor in possible conidtions not normally seen here in US (i.e malaria).
Be sure to look for an ACA accredited camp - their safety / risk management standards will be more of a sure think then a non-accredited camp.
Good luck! Have fun this summer... (can't wait till it warms up!)
