Bsn with recent dui

Looking for some help..

I graduated nursing school in August 2016 and got a dui in October 2016. I am from Michigan but applied for my license in California and am now realizing I am more than likely going to be denied to take the nclex. I am wondering if anyone knows if it is worth it to go through the 3 year probation and try and get a job in California or if I should switch to another state? Another question I have is can I start an application in another state right now if I haven't yet received an answer from the BON if my application is denied or not? And does anyone know if there are states that are more lenient and would let me take the nclex right away??

And I know the extent and the seriousness of my decision. I am extremely sorry and embarrassed and would really appreciate the negative comments to be minimal. Thank you guys! I am looking forward to your responses!!

No matter which state that you may apply for a license in, you still have to answer the pertinent questions on the application. So, in effect, you will be dealing with the situation at some time. I doubt there are any state application processes that do not ask questions about legal problems.

Thank you for your quick response!! Are there states that do not give probation or that are faster in the process in regards of allowing me to take the nclex?

Call the licensing division of the Board in the state where you want to be licensed with your questions.

Wow. What unfortunate timing but I guess it's never a good time to drink and drive.

Finish what you started, the bigger questions will be....have you gotten your drinking under control and maybe you might want to start that after the fact. There could be an issue and most functional alcoholics don't think so. My OPINOION if you got a DUI, there is and issue. not judging you at all. do what you need to keep your lic study be prepared for NCLEX but be wise take the time to work on the possible other. Because if you don't u could find yourself her a few years later facing the same issue. The question is Do I have a problem with alcohol and how can I start the fight that will save my life for the long run you can always go back to school nursing is not the all of all!

to answer your question:is the DUI the only thing on your criminal background? was is it a felony or misdemeanor DUI?

It was a misdemeanor. I had it dropped down to impaired driving (which is basically the same thing). I did alcohol evaluations, counseling, madd classes, alcohol highway safety, in addition to not drinking at all and therefore the judge did not give me any probation and the lowest fines. Although I am not sure if this will make a difference in their decision. And this is the only thing on my record.

yes they are some states that will issue you credentials if this is your first offense and there is no bodily harm. But since you already applied for CA(I am pretty sure that you will be denied at first) then you have another issue to deal with in other states when they ask if you ever had a license denied.

apply for your license in TN a compact state and you will have more choices. Best of luck.
