BSN to MS-CNM

I can relate. I just finished by BSN this passed Dec. I want to go back. I live in Virginia. I have looked at every in the state. There are only a handful of school that are online. My problem is I do not want to take the GRE. I have found a school located in another state that does not require a GRE and since it is a distance eduation the university going to charge in-state tuition. I feel as long the school is accredited by nursing organizations. It should be okay.

Reality Check -

Clinical specialization requires hands-on training. All 'distance education' programs with a clinical component will require a practicum. If the school requires you to set up your own practicum, it can be very difficult to arrange.

GRE, MAT, or other admission criteria is used as a screening tool to weed out unqualified applicants. If a program's main appeal is that they are 'open admission' without any screening, how do you think potential employers will value a degree from this institition. . . Hmmm?

Hey folks, I have actually taken the GRE 3 times because it 'expires' after 5 years. Each time, I had better scores. It isn't that bad. You don't have to score extremely well in all portions of it. My highest area was verbal & only so-so on the math.

They should be accredited and check out their required # of clinical practicum hours and compare with brick and mortar schools. Also check out midwife.org, it helps explain things alot!

I'm looking into Frontier,there is a midwifery practice near me where 2 out of 4 midwives got degress from there and they accept students for practicum,perfect!

@HouTx....University of Phoenix doesnt require GRE. There are several nurses are enrolled in a Advanced Degree Program at there school. These nurse are graduating and are finding good jobs.

Chat in the CNM forum. Frontier School of Midwifery was an early pioneer in distance Midwifery education. They have a wonderful reputation, scores of graduates (for preceptors) around the country, and are very affordable. You do need to travel to KY 2 or 3 times during the program though. You can work the program FT or PT. I have only heard good things about them. check it out.
