Bsn Gpa

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

i'm interested in applying to see if i'll get into the accelerated bs to bsn programs but i was wondering if anyone new what the gpa requirment is to some of the schools

If you already have some schools in mind, I would check their websites for application requirements for the program. If it's not on their website I would try calling the nursing department or an academic adviser or someone at the school who may have this information. The GPA requirements really are based on the individual institution.

A lot of the schools in my area have informational meetings, where they will certainly tell you of these things. It seems that every school is different! Some only look at certain classes for the grade point, not all of the classes you may have taken.

I went to a information meeting recently for an accelerated bsn program, and they are only looking at about 7 classes (some science, some not) and said they will rank the applicants by grade point based on these classes and pick the top 32! I didn't apply to that school!

It seems that many of the accelerated BSN programs I've looked into are looking for a minimum undergrad GPA of 3.0.

I have personally never seen one less than a 3.0 for an accelerated program.

Around here, they say a C+ is the lowest average, and that specific classes have to be a C+ or higher, even if your other classes bring your overall average above that. However, here there is enough competition for the available spots that the average GPA of those who are accepted is higher than that. Most programs here have information meetings where you can ask questions and get the numbers and other questions answered directly from nursing faculty and advisors. Aside from that, you can also call the nursing departments for the schools you're interested in and get information that way. I'd suggest making an appointment to talk to someone in person whenever possible, if they don't have or you can't attend one of the information meetings.

Good luck!!! :D

From what I have seen and heard, overall, the accelerated BSNs tend to be more competitive than the traditional BSN programs.

The traditional BSN program I'm applying to has an average GPA of 3.9, and the accelerated program averages 4.0 for those accepted.

You need to find out the stats at your particular college, though.
