Brookhaven Nursing Program

Hello everyone!! I have been doing my support courses for the last year and a half and I'm going to apply for the nursing program at Brookhaven this month. Though I'm not really stressing about it I am a little worried. This is my 3rd attempt at college and the first 2 times I did horrible!! Since I made the choice to go to nursing school in Summer of 2009, I've brought my GPA up from 1.76 to 3.0. And, all my grades in my support classes have been A's and B's except 1, Nursing Pathophysiology. I made a C in that class and it would have been a B if I had not made one mistake at the end of the course. So, my question is does anyone think that C in that class will hinder me much? If anyone can offer any insight it would be great. Thanks!!

Did any of y'all take the HESI at El Centro before taking it at Brookhaven?

(Since Brookhaven only allows you to take it once each application period, I'm a little worried about going into the test not knowing what to expect since I haven't taken it before and that completely ruining my chances for the Spring semester...)

Yay Fortylove! I am so excited!

To help with the confusion these are the people on allnurses that are also on the FB group lol. I had to do this so I knew who was who lol. All of us are going to Fall 2011 and graduating Dec2012.

I am really glad we are all getting to know each other because when it comes to clinicals and questions about school we wont have to worry about not knowing who to ask. Plus thanks to Ashlee lots of us are going to meet for CPR. Knowing we will have friends the first day will really help me sleep at night, so thank you all for staying connected and being so nice. I think we are off to a good start!

I checked into the RN to MSN and I don't think that the programs offered are what I want to do. At least as far as I can tell. I want to ultimately be a Nurse Practitioner and I UTA doesn't offer the program I want to do online only on campus. I think for that kind of learning I would much rather be in the classroom and at the hospital in clinicals trying to absorb as much as I can. I'm much better at learning and retaining information that way versus online classes. Now online stuff for busy work classes are amazing! I took several but for this kind of stuff I think I just couldn't do it. Alum what kind of MSN are you looking into?

I have looked again at TTU. , TWU, and UTT. I want to do leadership and use my MBA eventually. I hope to do clinical nursing for about five years only.

sounds like a good plan. which of those universities have online programs?

I was wondering, I have all my BSRN pre reqs for Texas Womans, but I took most of them at 3 different community colleges. Can the university's make me retake classes to get my BSRN from them once I get my RN from Brookhaven?

Congrats Hobbits for getting in to the program. I have just finished the Brookhaven program and will be graduating May 12. I just wanted to let you know that I have some of the books that you will need for the program. Just PM me if you want to know about them. Let me know if you have any questions about the program and I will be happy to let you know. I am here for anybody who may have questions about the Brookhaven Nursing Progam.

No, as long as they are the same courses needed, then they will be fine.

grats on the graduation.

first question I have is what were the requirements on shoes. Any specific color requirement?

There is a teacher at brookhaven that STRONGLY encourages you to get your BSN and not just directly to MSN as it can and will limit your career. There was a director of surgical nursing that had to step down because she did NOT have a BSN. She did have a bachelors, but not in nursing. so be careful with that decision.

I think it depends on your instructor about the shoes.

I got away with Mizuno running shoes that were sorta white, but more silver with pinks and yellows on the logo.

I know someone that wears white toms. super comfortable.

you can get white birks, white dansko's, white NB, BK's and the list goes on.
