Brookhaven Nursing Program - Spring 2012 Admission

Hello everyone, I am searching for fellow nursing applicants who plan to apply for Spring 2012 admission into Brookhaven's nursing program. A little about myself, I am currently completing my support courses (A&P II, Pharmacology, and Microbiology), and for the summer I'll be taking Spanish 1411. I gave the HESI test a try (2/15/11) just to get a feel for it, and I scored a 91. I've completed all 4 of the pre-requisites (Chem, A&P I, English, and Psychology) with A's. To my most recent knowledge, according to Brookhaven's website, they will be accepting 50 students per application period (Spring and Fall). Have anyone else heard of this? And also, does anyone know the minimum overall points of the students accepted into the program? I calculate my HESI score (91-75) for 16 points + 4.0 points for the pre-requisites GPA, and 12 points for the completed support courses, this giving me a total of 32 points. I wonder if this is good enough for acceptance. For those responding to this thread, please feel free to share your status, as we are all in this to achieve the same goal. Also, for past and current nursing students of Brookhaven's nursing program, I welcome your advice and knowledge. Thanks everyone. :)

I just signed up to take the HESI. I take it this Friday at 9am. I was actually surprised that they had any spots left! Pheww!!

Oh and I asked the guy at the testing center if the HESI test was timed and he said that it usually is but for this test period the nursing department didn't put a time requirement on it so as long as I finish the test by 5pm when the testing center closes I will be okay :) He said that there might be a timer on the test but I should just ignore it.

Thats great Briterz!!

I went and turned in my application today, and spoke with ac. She told me that after they send out the points email they will call the 50 to 60 people with the most points in for interviews that following week.

Did she say anything about how the interview points will be weighted w/the application points? I'm also pretty nervous that the interviews will be scheduled while I'm at work, since that is the only time the nursing office is open!

No she didn't go into any details. I was also somewhat nervous about making a good impression and making sure my application was perfect that I didn't ask all the questions I wanted to.

I ended up having to sneak away at lunch to go turn in the application. My work is not at all flexible so I am worried about that as well.

Hmm... I'm going to a dr's appointment in the morning tomorrow and dropping off my application then, I'll ask her about that stuff and let you know!

Dropped off my application this morning... ac said that they may do our interviews in groups of 5 or so (weird!) but they really don't know all the details yet. She said they should be giving us enough warning in case we need to make arrangements with work, etc. and it shouldn't take too long.

Thanks for asking!!

Did she say how the interview might be weighed in the admission process?

You're welcome! No she said she didn't know that yet, I guess they're still nailing down some details. I'm wondering why they aren't just starting it for the fall admission cycle since they don't have it figured out yet... it makes me a little nervous!

Took my HESI today. It wasn't too bad. I got an 85 which I'm proud of because I didn't study much and I am just now taking A&P2. My worst part was math...those dang fractions! LOL

I will be retaking the HESI in February before I apply. I need a overall score of 93 to be competitive enough to get into Brookhaven's program. I hope I can get that!!

Good job Briertz! Go to the Evolve website and use their study resources for the specific questions you missed... I got an 89 the first time I took it (did horribly on A&P) and just raised my score to a 95!

Wow!! What a great score! I hope i can get that when I retake the test!

Yeah I saw the study section. I don't think I will print it out but I will definitely look over it on my computer and keep studying with the HESI study guide I have.

What is everyone doing between now and (hopefully) starting school? I am getting antsy already... the only support course I haven't done is EOL because of my work schedule so that's not an option... I took 15 hours of support courses/prereqs this summer and worked full time so I feel like I don't know what to do with all this time on my hands! I'm trying to make myself review Patho and Pharm but it's difficult without a set schedule (i.e. an actual course). Suggestions?
