Brookhaven Nursing Program - Spring 2012 Admission

Hello everyone, I am searching for fellow nursing applicants who plan to apply for Spring 2012 admission into Brookhaven's nursing program. A little about myself, I am currently completing my support courses (A&P II, Pharmacology, and Microbiology), and for the summer I'll be taking Spanish 1411. I gave the HESI test a try (2/15/11) just to get a feel for it, and I scored a 91. I've completed all 4 of the pre-requisites (Chem, A&P I, English, and Psychology) with A's. To my most recent knowledge, according to Brookhaven's website, they will be accepting 50 students per application period (Spring and Fall). Have anyone else heard of this? And also, does anyone know the minimum overall points of the students accepted into the program? I calculate my HESI score (91-75) for 16 points + 4.0 points for the pre-requisites GPA, and 12 points for the completed support courses, this giving me a total of 32 points. I wonder if this is good enough for acceptance. For those responding to this thread, please feel free to share your status, as we are all in this to achieve the same goal. Also, for past and current nursing students of Brookhaven's nursing program, I welcome your advice and knowledge. Thanks everyone. :)

ITguy, your story gave me a little sigh of relief! :) Chem is actually going ok for me... I'm taking 1405 though, which I'm sure is much easier! I (barely) have an A right now and I have 2 labs and an exam left... wish me luck! Hopefully when I apply, I'll be able to raise my HESI score about 5 points and apply with about 34 points... fingers crossed!!

I took Chemistry....well actually everything but Patho at Mountain View (they begin their new nursing program this fall). I took my first HESI in February, 2010 and made a 94.73. I WAY OVERstudied in February, 2011 and made a 92.26. I didn't want to take the HESI the second time because I was happy with the score but I had taken it at Mountain View the first time. Even though Mountain View was a Brookhaven satellite at the time, Brookhaven wanted me to take it there. Regardless of your score, be sure to apply. You may want to apply at Mountain View too. I think MVC is a prettier campus but I'm biased because I'm from the area.:smokin:

I can't wait to be done with my co-reqs in December so I can apply to the nursing program in February!!! I'm going to take the HESI this September fir the first time so I can get a feel for it and if I don't get a good score I will retake it in February before putting in my application :)

Has anyone taken the HESI at Brookhaven yet? I just found out that the exam is different depending on which school it's for... I really thought the exam was standardized across the board... people on here mentioned that it varied and I'm thinking "no way, that can't be true..." but I checked the Evolve site and it's making me freak out about the test even more! (although at least we know now why the Evolve review book is so general) Can anyone give me any advice on how in depth to go on the A&P, what the math stresses, etc? I took the HESI once for Baylor and scored pretty well, but I know I need to bring my score up at least 4 points to feel okay about getting in... any info would help :)

This morning my Pharm teacher, who is also a nursing instructor at Brookhaven, said that starting this October (for those applying for Spring 2012) they will be doing interviews along with the other requirements to get into the program. This is interesting and makes me super nervous!!

I second your nervousness!!!! I am busting my butt to make sure I get above a 93 on the HESI so I end up with at least 32 points... I would be crushed if I ended up getting the points but still not getting in... this seems like the kind of thing they should have mentioned during the info sessions. Are you sture they're not starting it for Fall 2012 admissions (wishful thinking on my part)?

Oh no... just called the office and was told "it's possible" but no info on how it would weigh with the other components... apparently they're still working out the details...Thank you so much for the heads up Briterz!!!!

She said that they will be starting interviews in October for the students who want to start the nursing program in January. Applications are due in September/February and they will do the interviews for that application period in October/March.

I'm sure it is to weed out those who can't commit to such an intensive program. This is just me guessing though.

I am with you about the HESI...I need to get a 93 or above to get a 32 in overall points. I am going to take the HESI this september and see how I do..if it's not a great score then I will retake it in February right before I apply.

You're welcome! Yeah everyone was shocked this morning when the instructor told us about it. I think the details are still being hammered out.

Yep that'll be me... Planning on turning in my app in about 2 weeks once I've taken the HESI. I think I overreacted with the nervousness though, I have good grades from my prereqs, I took a buttload of support courses this summer with all As, and I have a job so I feel like I can sit through an interview :) hahaha maybe it won't be too bad! I'll let you know how it goes...

That was super nice of her to share that too :) they definitely don't "need" to tell us about things that aren't official yet, so I'm glad she was lookin out for y'all

Yes please let me know how it goes!! I wish I could apply now but I am taking Patho, Pharm, Humanities, Dosage and A&P2 this semester which I really need those points so I have to wait until February.

I couldn't get into the End of Life class for this semester though :( I signed on at 8am sharp the day registration opened for fall and that class was already full :( So that will be one point that I will be missing out on...which sucks but it's only one point!
