  1. I took Chemistry....well actually everything but Patho at Mountain View (they begin their new nursing program this fall). I took my first HESI in February, 2010 and made a 94.73. I WAY OVERstudied in February, 2011 and made a 92.26. I didn't want to take the HESI the second time because I was happy with the score but I had taken it at Mountain View the first time. Even though Mountain View was a Brookhaven satellite at the time, Brookhaven wanted me to take it there. Regardless of your score, be sure to apply. You may want to apply at Mountain View too. I think MVC is a prettier campus but I'm biased because I'm from the area.
  2. I'm also in for Fall 2011. I took A&P I and Chemistry (1411) concurrently and I nearly dropped Chemistry at the fifth week (was failing BADLY). I used one of the homework websites to help push me through the homework and the professor gave us a couple of take-home exams, and one extra credit exam. These exams took HOURS to complete but I wound up with a B (I was a HALF POINT away from an A), so my GPA suffered only a little (besides my overall GPA sucks anyway). It was a load but mostly because Chemistry is hard. Incidentally, I got in with a 29.99. I knew two girls that had 30+ but did not apply because they didn't think they'd get in!!! So I say APPLY. I probably just gave my identity away too. I also LOVE :redbeathe the group I'm with...they're great!
  3. You're my hero. I was accepted to nursing school for the fall (2011). I am a 45 yo male with a BSEET (DeVry) and I have been a help desk rep of some kind or another for 15 years (6 jobs). I lost my last IT job at the end of December and decided to become a certified Nurse's Aide to get my "feet wet" in a hospital. I passed the state exam on April 21st (found out about nursing school on the 15th), and was on the registry by April 28th. But it is difficult to get your feet wet when you can't get one in the door! I finally decided that it must be my dull resume. Sure, I'm certifed and I'm going to nursing school and I have a BS in another discipline with an almost unrrelated work history. I have to find those HIGHLIGHTS of my experience that corresponds with a position as a CNA (or PCA, PCT). I've taken 3 nursing curriculum classes (we get points for taking them before applying) including Pharmacology, Dosage Calculations and Pathophysiology. The classes can be challenging, but the professors always treat me like any other student. The younger students seem to think I'm some sort of study wizard; but then I've been part-time for two years. I'm about to be full-time for the first time since 1993. I'm not carrying 18-21 hours like I did then but the first 9 may kill me. Someimes I wonder, if I had taken Biology instead of Chemistry in high school and again in college, would my interest have changed? Like me, you probably approach nursing with the mind of an engineer. Has nursing school beat this tendency out of you??
  4. The math is basic just like in the Admission Assessment...addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of whole numbers, decimals, fractions, mixed numbers; percentages, ratios...and those darn Roman numerals and conversions (nothing too difficult). I didn't even see the calculator until I had almost finished the math section! I'm taking it (second time...different school) on Wednesday. I made a 94.73 last February. Good luck!
