Brookhaven Nursing Program - Spring 2012 Admission

Hello everyone, I am searching for fellow nursing applicants who plan to apply for Spring 2012 admission into Brookhaven's nursing program. A little about myself, I am currently completing my support courses (A&P II, Pharmacology, and Microbiology), and for the summer I'll be taking Spanish 1411. I gave the HESI test a try (2/15/11) just to get a feel for it, and I scored a 91. I've completed all 4 of the pre-requisites (Chem, A&P I, English, and Psychology) with A's. To my most recent knowledge, according to Brookhaven's website, they will be accepting 50 students per application period (Spring and Fall). Have anyone else heard of this? And also, does anyone know the minimum overall points of the students accepted into the program? I calculate my HESI score (91-75) for 16 points + 4.0 points for the pre-requisites GPA, and 12 points for the completed support courses, this giving me a total of 32 points. I wonder if this is good enough for acceptance. For those responding to this thread, please feel free to share your status, as we are all in this to achieve the same goal. Also, for past and current nursing students of Brookhaven's nursing program, I welcome your advice and knowledge. Thanks everyone. :)

Briterz, are you the one who was also applying to Baylor or am I confusing you with someone else? If that was you, did you take the HESI there yet?

No I did not apply at Baylor or anywhere else :)

Oh ok, I must have mixed you up with someone else! If anyone else on here has taken the HESI for both Baylor and Brookhaven, let me know what you thought about the difficulty of each... I got a 91 on Baylor's and am set to take Brookhaven's in about a week :)

I'm going to be taking the Hesi again on the 10th and I have to say I am so nervous. I made a 76 on the AP portion in February so this time I am spending every waking moment outside of work studying for this test.

I'm really curious how they are going to set up the interview process, and what kind of weight they are going to give it in the admission process.

Same here escapebigd! Same test date and same A&P score... also same studying like a crazy person! I emailed my adviser and she said what she thinks they will do is rank everybody and interview the top 50 people based on the normal points system, then add your "interview points" to that and the top 40 will get in. She said the website should be updated with that info soon but as students turn in their application packets, they're being told the new system. Good luck on the HESI!!

So took my hesi today, and I think I will have 32.81 points. I hope it will be enough!!!

How long did it take you guys to finish the HESI? Was it on the computer or a paper and pencil test? Were you able to use a calculator? If so did you supply your own or do they give you one to use?

I wonder if there are still spots open to take it this month. I haven't signed up yet.

Besides the fact I was locked out for the first hour and half, had to run to the nursing dept and get an emergency number for the dean to unlock a lot of students, it took a little over an hour to take it once I could.

It is on a computer, and a calculator is on the computer for you to use. The only thing you are allowed to bring in is a couple of pencils and the receipt they give you when you sign up for the test.

I'm not sure if there will be spots left, a lot of them were taken when I signed up on the 29th.

Why was it that so many people were locked out? My computer didn't have any issues with the exam (luckily) but it seemed like just about everybody else's did! Y'all handled it better than I would have I think... I was pretty nervous and antsy just waiting to get into the testing room! :)

Did you notice if your timer said expired?

They noticed it on mine, and a couple other people and closed it out and tried to start the test back but it wouldn't let them.

After going to get the deans number another girl and myself sat in the hallway until about 10:30 before we could finally get started again. I guess the testing center doesn't have the password to unlock people only two people in the nursing dept do.

My timer did say expired. I had taken the exam before and thought I remembered that from the last time... then when I went to the restroom I asked them just to make sure and they said everyone's timer said that. I just kept going with the test and my score printout still had the correct time on there. Sorry y'all had to do all that!
