Bridge Program

Hi yall,

I started school on Monday to complete the last of my pre-reqs. We were having a discussion with the main instructor of our program. We were all asking about the LPN to RN bridge program. This is what she told us.

Get our LPN license, work for 6 months as an LPN, then wwe could brige over to the RN program and get our RN license within 6 months. I was a little skeptical about this, however I dont know. So I would like to know if anyone else has ever heard of this, and if this is really possible? I dont want to get my hopes up about this. Please let me know. And thank you very much in advance.

If I were you, I would ask for a copy of the course curriculum to see EXACTLY how it worked. I would be very, very skeptical.

I have seen programs for 1 year, and that included the summer, but not 6 months. I would also check with the BON to see what their pass rate on the NCLEX is for the RN program.

ok, I am in a LPN program now, it is 15 months long. Then you have to get you license, then work for 6 months, and bridge over to the RN program and then take the NCLEX for the RN. I have a copy of the full cirriculum, but not fo rthe bridge program.

I, personally, have not heard of any LPN-to-RN program that was shorter than one year in length. These bridge programs are typically 1 year long.

ok, thank you very much. I have an appointment on Monday to find out more information on this situtation. I may have misunderstood. I will let you all now what I find out.

The LPN programs here are 3 semesters and then the bridge programs are 2 semesters of RN classes and some make you do a short summer bridge class. So you are looking at the minimum of September to May before you can sit for yoru RN boards. I would keep an open mind because when we say 1 year do we mean 12 months or 1 fall and 1 spring semester type year?

Our LPN course is 5 semesters or 15 months long Jules. I am willing to do the work no problem. I have an open mind, just kinda get frustrated when I get so many conflicting stories from the school, it seems no one knows the answer to this wuestion.

in our school you basicly miss the first semester of nursing and start in the 2nd semester so you still have 3 semesters to complete. The only advantage besides the obvious experience would be there are less applicants trying for the lvn-rn spots so you could possibly have a better chance at getting in (at myschool anyway).

about 8 years ago i was working with a rn that had gone to a bridge program here in the dfw area that was 6 months long...they have since discontinued that program, now most are 3 semesters long. the one that i applied to this semester is 6 weeks int he summer and then 2 long semesters..but i think the norm is about 3 semesters

Thank you, I am thankful for everyoones input. I havent been able to meet with the lady I have to talk to yet. She has been out due to personal reasons. Hopefully I can get this settled with my school and know where I stand very soon. Again, thank you to everyone that has responded.

Can you tell me about the bridge program. I live here in Georgia and doing my pre-req's now. HELP!
