Boston Direct Entry Program - Calling All Applicants!

Hello everyone - I just wanted to create a thread for those of us applying to direct entry programs in the Boston area to talk. Has anyone heard from any schools yet? Although I did not apply to Regis early decision (I am applying by the regular deadline), I know that they have likely already notified people - congrats to those who got in! I called Boston College a few days ago, and they said they are notifying people late February. I'm also applying to MGH, Northeastern and Simmons.

Good luck to everyone! :nurse:

Thanks clts and danadana - I forgot that it was listed as one of the application requirements. Good luck on your interview, danadana!

Clts - thanks for the good wishes, and I hope you received good news from them as well!

Choco80,

It was an acceptance letter. Don't stress over the interview (easier said then done). For me it seemed more like conversation, my interviewer was so nice and easy to talk to. If you are honest and can explain why you want to be an NP then you have it covered!!!

I was just wondering if people have a first choice school? Has anyone mad a decision about where they will be attending? For those who were accepted at Northeastern, have you received your actual acceptance letter in the mail? I am looking to see who future classmates may be! Have a good day everyone!

I received the acceptance call, but have not yet received my acceptance letter from Northeastern, but as others have noted, I declared an interest in psych, so it looks like decisions in other areas haven't been made yet.

I think I'll likely be going there, but I'm also interested in MGH. I also have an interest in FNP, though I don't know which way I'll go yet. Northeastern said as of now, it is allowed to change your specialty/interest prior to the specialization phase, but that this might not be the case a few years from now. (Looks like quotas are being used). This is one of the most attractive things to me about Northeastern as well as the co-op.

I went to an MGH information session in which one of the panelists said that incoming MGH students will NOT be able to switch their specialties after entering the program, though I don't know how firm this is. It would be hard for me to imagine a student in good standing that has done well in classes being refused that. I suppose one could always leave with the BSN and apply to a different program?

Looking forward to getting started this fall!

I'm also interesting in hearing how you folks are evaluating programs aside from visiting. Have you found useful quantitative rankings by specialty anywhere?

Thanks!

icontainmultitudes - MGH does not offer a BSN after you are finished with the RN portion. Just wanted to make sure you knew that since you're in the decision phase :)

thanks, sara. just checked the website-- i stand corrected. :)

icontain - At the MGH info session I went to a few months ago, they were a little less rigid re: switching among specialities. They said you could switch as long as there was space and the program you were seeking to switch into was able to accommodate you, and they could not guarantee that you would be able to switch. They said, by example, that the FNP specialty was especially popular in recent years, and that if someone wanted to switch into that from another speciality mid-program, they would not be able to, however they said people have switched from FNP to other specialities, and among other specialties as well.

(As I side note, I'm getting particularly anxious about hearing from MGH! I'm hoping it happens this week, let's see...)

icontainmultitudes: You said you went to the MGH information session recently. Do you mind giving me a general summary of the session? What did you think of the program? Was there anything unique about it or that really stood out to you? How affiliated are they to MGH? With MGH being one of the best hospitals in the country, I am a little surprised the school isn't ranked higher.

has anyone (other than psych) heard from NEU yet? or MGH? this wait is killer!

Haven't heard anything, but has anyone other than psych interviewed at Northeastern yet? I apologize if this was addressed earlier and I missed it...

Btw, I called Simmons and they said they were mailing out decisions tentatively at the end of March (which means we'll receive them mid-April :) )

I had my interview at NEU on Feb 17 and I didn't declare a specific track (ie - psych).
