Boston Direct Entry Program - Calling All Applicants!

Published

Hello everyone - I just wanted to create a thread for those of us applying to direct entry programs in the Boston area to talk. Has anyone heard from any schools yet? Although I did not apply to Regis early decision (I am applying by the regular deadline), I know that they have likely already notified people - congrats to those who got in! I called Boston College a few days ago, and they said they are notifying people late February. I'm also applying to MGH, Northeastern and Simmons.

Good luck to everyone! :nurse:

hey there! finally an UPDATED thread for Boston programs! I also applied to Northeastern and MGH for Boston area schools. Threw an application to Columbia too though i'd much rather stay in Boston as this is where my connections are from my undergrad internships. I'm a senior at Northeastern right now so let me know if you have any questions about the school! I can't even think of one bad thing to say about it---absolutely love it. I believe we should be hearing back by March from both MGH and NU. The anticipation is killing me! Didn't help going to the open house for both and learning how competitive the admission is. Guess we just have to keep positive and know that we could be two of the few chosen!

I didn't attend an NU info session, although I have heard that they have a small class with a lot of applicants (have they ever disclosed just how many people apply/get in?). I'm also non-traditional, so I'm not sure if schools will like that, or if it will go against me - we'll see!

(Btw, I am heartbroken over the Patriots loss tonight... )

Unfortunately the numbers are pretty slim for spots and high for applicants. Last year they had around 350 applicants for 30 spots. This year I believe they said there are 24 spots. Numbers like that are discouraging but have to keep hopeful. What is your top choice?

(bummed about the Pats too! next year)

I would honestly be happy going to any of the schools I applied to, but I would say that MGH and Northeastern are probably my top choices (MGH might actually have the advantage...) I assume Northeastern is yours?

I'm glad to hear you like the undergrad - have you taken any nursing classes there or interacted with any of the nursing students (ugrad or grad?)? What do they have to say about it?

I have actually spoken with alums from MGH and Regis, and haven't yet spoken with anyone from Northeastern, so I'm curious!

Also, I wonder when we'll be contacted re: interviews - it probably won't be too long from now!

Northeastern is my top choice mainly because of the great experience I've had in my undergrad (and it doesn't hurt that alumni get a tuition discount haha) but MGH is great as well; a great reputation and great connections.

I have taken nutrition and microbiology now with some nursing students at Northeastern and they all seem happy with the program---though the majority of them are very young and new to the school. However, a friend of mine is a CNA at Beth Isreal and says that every nursing co-op student she has met from Northeastern works at a great hospital (i.e brigham, beth isreal, children's) so it sounds like co-op has amazing connections.

Apparently last year's class heard back about interviews in February, which is right around the corner! but who knows! fingers staying permanently crossed haha

I also called BC earlier this month and got the same "mid-february" response. I applied to BC, NU and MGH and am nervously awaiting admissions decisions. I think last year BC had 2 rounds of admissions. One was the last week of January and the second was mid-late february after they hear back from the first group. Anyone else nervous about having to respond to BC before hearing anything from other schools? I've heard they give you a few weeks to send in a deposit. Its my first choice, but financial aid could be a factor.

I also just noticed that a lot of people heard around Jan 27-28 last year, despite being told by the admissions office they wouldn't hear until Feb. This has definitely made me a bit nervous/excited about the next few days! MGH and BC are also my top choices - I also like Northeastern a lot, however I am a bit older (almost 31) and I'm not too crazy about the program being a bit longer than the others, although I have no doubt they provide an excellent education. Good luck!

Hello all! I'm also waiting to hear back from BC and MGH, the wait is so nerve wracking. Good luck to everyone and hopefully we will all be hearing things pretty soon. What specialty MSN tracks did you guys apply for?

cheers!

I applied for FNP. I remember at the MGH info session they said that in recent years, they've received the most applications in that area so it's been the hardest to get into. Who knows what area people will be interested in this year...

Hi! I applied for the ABSN at MGH to begin in May. I received a letter saying I was put on the waitlist, so at least it wasn't a "NO"!! I wondered if anyone knows when the decision deposits are due from those accepted into the ABSN program? I'm guessing some spots may open up then? Here's hopin'!:)

I applied to the child/adolescent Psychiatric specialty...anyone else?? This waiting game is driving me nuts too! I'm sure we will all hear back soon and receive nothing but good news!
