Boston Direct Entry Program - Calling All Applicants!

Hello everyone - I just wanted to create a thread for those of us applying to direct entry programs in the Boston area to talk. Has anyone heard from any schools yet? Although I did not apply to Regis early decision (I am applying by the regular deadline), I know that they have likely already notified people - congrats to those who got in! I called Boston College a few days ago, and they said they are notifying people late February. I'm also applying to MGH, Northeastern and Simmons.

Good luck to everyone! :nurse:

That's so strange about mgh, I had also heard that they were sending out letters by today...I really hope they do!

I applied to bc for FNP and received a waitlist email today from Mary- beth Crowley (a bc.edu email). Both mgh and BC are my top choices so I am keeping my hopes up!!

PsychMC- It did come from a "bc.edu" I totally understand the constant checking and being paranoid but I would try to relax as much as you can. It seems that BC has been sending out decisions over the course of the last week and I don't know if there is really any order to it. But good luck with you waiting. I hope you hear soon!

And thank you very much for the congratulations. However, I have decided that I will be turning down my acceptance to BC. I will be attending Columbia or Emory because their programs just fit what I am looking for more. But I hope everyone the best of luck with BC and that everyone ends up where they want to.

I called MGH today and they told me the decision letters would be sent out mid-March :(

I got an email today saying I was wait-listed at BC for the psych-mental health specialty. Does anyone know what the chances of getting off the wait-list at BC are, or anything about how the wait list has been in past years? I am so hopefully yet nervous. BC is my first choice. I really hope I get accepted!

I called MGH today and they told me the decision letters would be sent out mid-March :(

MID-MARCH?! WHAAATTTT?!

I believe that someone on this forum asked if anyone applying for Pediatric NP had heard from BC. I received my decision letter via email this afternoon. It seems like they have been sending the letters out by specialty so hopefully all you other PNPs hear soon. Good luck to everyone!

I think that was me that asked.

I received a call this Saturday from Northeastern to invite me for an interview next week. I'm excited and nervous.

can someone let me know how the interview goes? I was finally contacted, but I'd be very curious to know how it goes. The woman i spoke with on the phone was super nice. I really enjoyed our conversation.

Did anyone apply to Northeastern's acute care track?

Mid-March for MGH?!? I must say, that is really annoying considering they originally were saying this week. A lot of deposits for other schools are due in March. I would think they would speed things up with the knowledge that most people who applied to their school need to make decisions with others within the next few weeks.

does anyone know about how to fill out financial aid for BC form without a student eagle ID??

I am looking at this now as we speak. I emailed a question to the person who sent our acceptance letter and she said there was no separate financial aid form to fill out. Did you already do your FAFSA?

By the way, you will have an Eagle ID# if you used the online application to the DE program. You may have to email BC to get that info or re-login to http://portal.bc.edu (use the same credentials). Within the portal, you click on the financial aid link and then you have to use your Eagle ID#... There is a message in there with a link to this website: http://www.bc.edu/offices/stserv/gettingstartedgrad.html

That last website should help you :)

I was also waitlisted for pediatrics! If anyone can shed some light on the chances are for waitlisted people, I'd really appreciate it as well!

SaraNH - I agree, I find MGH's sudden delay (by one month) just a few days after they told us they were mailing out decisions on the 16th, to be completely unprofessional. They HAD to know late last week that they were still in the process of reviewing applications and would take another MONTH before notifying people. This is going to cost many people an expensive deposit at another school. We pay a lot of money to apply to these schools - $50-75 for many of these MA programs, and the least they can do is follow up on their word (and if they can't, they should not state a date at all).

This is not exclusive to MGH at all. Honestly, I haven't been impressed with how too many of the programs have been handling the application process. BC basically sent out nothing to those people they accepted for the direct entry program (at least the FNP program has not received anything) - just a quick email with an acceptance letter and a reply form asking us to commit to a deposit. I have not received any brochure, any financial aid information (and it sounds like, based on the comments on this thread, there is a lot of confusion about how to complete the BC forms, using an eagle ID), or any other mailing from the school. Also, it is not always easy to reach these programs - I called 3 different numbers at BC in the past couple of days and could not get through to anyone. Our deposit is due imminently - in 2 weeks - and I do not feel equipped to make a decision based on the information they provided.

Additionally, I don't think the BC website (or any of the other MA programs, honestly) has much information on it for prospective students, and some of the schools (like Simmons) have websites that look like they are from the early 2000s. They are disorganized and lack a lot of information - I have spoken to current students at a couple of these schools who also complain about this problem, however I'm surprised nobody does anything about it.

What bothers me about this is that the commitment a school demonstrates to you during the application/acceptance process is in many ways indicative of how they will treat you once you are there. If anything, the schools should be treating us BETTER at this point to try and create an impression. I have not been impressed, to say the least.

I know I am hijacking my own thread with this post, but it's just something I had to get off my chest! I think I'm going to create a new topic on this point, because I'm concerned about how the students in these direct entry programs are actually treated by the schools once they get there.
