Bored?

We are currently in hybrid right now and I work at a middle school. I only have about 200 kids in my building a day. I have COVID work for the mornings and I typically only see about 3-4 kids a day.

This is my second year and last year was definitely busier pre COVID but to be honest it was still not very busy.

The nurse in our districts other middle school is very busy.

Feeling useless....any advice appreciated.

Just wait for it and enjoy the peace and quiet to catch up on some other things...chances are...you will be crazy busy at some point in the near future.

enjoy it!!

sincerely,

swamped ?

As soon as you have exposures or an outbreak, you will be very very busy... Enjoy your life now!

Can you work ahead in any way?

Can you offer support to admin in any way?

@laflacaI agree - once you get a group of contacts there's at least two nurses' worth of work.

Good luck!

You could join NASN and check out all the great tools & journals on their website.  Get ahead on CEs.  FEMA offers free disaster preparedness courses.  You could do the Johns Hopkins contact tracing course.  But really, relax.  Your expertise is going to be invaluable as soon as the school opens back up.

I am feeling the same way.  I have started walking the school and Lysol spraying all surfaces, taking advantage of all the free webinars and CE's out there, and reading a real life book for fun (!).  I am averaging 2-3 kids a day.  It's like a ghost town in here!

I have an update! An elementary school nurse in my district is leaving and I have been offered her position in an elementary school servicing 800 students (not during COVID of course). I think that will keep me on my toes! Hahahah

Since we're on a modified distance/in-person, my admin is letting me flex time it.   It's sort of all hands on deck on the mornings the kids are here.    There's little for me to do other than some occasional paperwork when they aren't.
