How many books for nursing school did you have to get. Did you get to use them all? I bought 11 books just for the first semester alone and I'm stArting this jan. The books were required but theyre so thick and fine-printed. I'm kind of shocked lol

First year we have 5 required books: a foundations book, med-surg, mental health, maternal/child, and a clinical book. Then most of us added in at least a nursing handbook, a drug book, an Nclex book, and a care plan book. Love my rolling backpack. (Never thought I'd say that!)

It was a lot...to be honest, I don't quite remember how many.....There was a bundle though that I believe included Medsurg 1 & 2(Lewis version) Fundamentals(I think Potter and Perry?), dosage calculation book, care plan book, nursing dx book, I know I am forgetting some. I can tell you that my first quarter of nursing books costs about 850, now the Med Surg 1/2 book lasted 3 qtrs(Possibly 4 if we use it in our preceptorship/critical care qtr). After that, the costs of books went down, where we bought one book for Psych, OB, Peds(although peds was a new bundle that included our Critical Care book for preceptorship).

We started with a series of 9 books. They are all thick and fine print as well. In our program, we'll be using these books throughout the program with a couple of e-books (6).

The first semester we had 6 books. The second semester which I start in January we are adding in 7 books and continuing the use of 3 of the books from the previous semester. It seems as if the cost goes down each semester from what I have been told by those ahead of me at school.

I'm starting in a few weeks and we have 6 required and 4 optional texts. The instructor actually told us to avoid the optional ones because they an be a distraction and totally agree. I don't think we'll cover all the chapters in every book since some will be used throughout the next couple of years....still the amount is pretty scary.

We buy ebooks for my program. The first semester it costs about $500 for the bundle, and the second semester costs about $600. After the second semester, we don't buy anymore books and use the books from the first and second semester throughout the program.

Just realize that you most likely won't cover all of the material in the books you just got this semester, but will use them throughout the program.

Did you use all your books?

I start in January. Just bought the first semester books. I'll let you know around 05/2015 lol.

For my the class ahead of me and after, it's all of the books or nothing and physical textbooks aren't an option(Unless you want to buy a second copy). I'm fairly certain that we'll use all of the books though. The class that is about to graduate used the same books (different editions) in physical format minus the online labs/homework access for the books. They used all of their books. They spent about $900 the first semester and considerably less the other semesters.

I probably bought the most books in my first year, it was all your basics...labs, care plan, physiology, pathophys, pharm, foundations, med-surg, atlas of anatomy for cadaver lab, health assessment. Most of those I have used throughout every following semester as references in care plans and case studies. The only books I didn't use again was physiology, pharm, and atlas of anatomy. once we got into the specialty courses, it was just a book per course- peds, ob, critical care, research and genetics (these 2 were a waste of money), and of course NCLEX books. Still deciding if I'm going to buy the books for this final semester...I will, I just LOVE books hah

I like having all my books on a shelf, it reminds me of how much I have learned throughout the years.
