I am a new RN and I'm beginning my application process to a few hospitals. I have worn a beard for 7 years now but many friends and nurses have told me I should interview clean shaven. Thoughts or experiences would be very helpful.

I see no reason to shave it off. Just make sure it's trimmed and not crawling all over your neck... :)

I say as long as it is neat and tidy - not hanging all ove like a duck dynasty thing I would say go with it. If however you find yourself not getting jobs I would consider shaiving it. Some hospitals see beards as infection control risks so it should be short enough to be completely covered by a mask.

Not that this is fair or even legal but I'd probably shave it just to be on the safe side. To me its similar to tattoos, I'd cover them at least initially. Why take a chance that a job you really want be lost because whoever in the process doesn't like beards?

I had a few male and yes some female nurses that were asked to shave their beards by management recently. They went to HR, it wasn't pretty for management LOL

Yeah, I have a beard, it's not neat or trimmed but I comb it for special events. Definitely keep it, be yourself, and kick butt in those interviews. Be comfortable with yourself and others will be comfortable with you. might even offer you a job.
