BCIT August 2013 Applicants

Hello future nurses,

I am so excited to be starting nursing at BCIT in August!

For future applicants: To have a strong application make sure you have work experience, volunteer experience (preferably healthcare), as well as liberal arts courses - my Psych 241 at SFU transferred over as a libs course and I will find out if any other courses of mine transfer over once I send them an updated transcript.

I am going to be going in with a completed BSc in Kinesiology and Psychology, but a full degree is not necessary, just at least 60 credits to be competitive!

Anyone else defer to August?

Your very welcome! And the bonus of taking it online is no lab :)

Your very welcome! And for tru online there's no lab :)

If you are on TOP of the Holdlist they will let you know in the letter they send you. I was on top of the list for January. They guarantee you a spot for the next intake if they do not call you for the spot in the intake. I just deferred myself to the August intake.

If you start in aug 2013 what is the official grad date? Aug 2016? Was just curious if anyone knew, that would be great :)

PublicHealthHopeful,

The BSN program is a 3-year (year round) degree program. For students starting in August 2013 the terms are scheduled as follows (dates include exam week):

Level 1 - Aug 19 to Dec 13, 2013

Level 2 - Jan 6 to May 9, 2014

Spring Term - May 12 to Aug 1, 2014

Level 3 - Aug 18 to Dec 12, 2014

Level 4 - Jan 5 to July 31, 2015

Level 5 - Aug to Dec, 2015

Level 6 - Jan to May, 2016

When we were shortlisted a document was attached to the email we received

General-Information.pdf (something like that)

Congrats on your admission to the program.

Cheers!

Sorry, I must be visually incompetent. I didn't realize you meant GRAD date.

That I'm not too sure. I'm sure they will send us further information once the program commences.

No worries!

That was still a great help! Im guessing may of 2016 when we finish exams, so its not exactly 3 years then. Thanks for the reply :)

How's everyone doing on finding CPR-HCP? Think it would be worth it if I ran one or two in Coquitlam/Burnaby before the program starts?

Also a reminder to join the August 2013 Nursing Facebook group (I can't link it or I break the ToS).

Has anyone that has been waitlisted in the top 10 been notified of acceptance yet?

Hey everyone, I've received acceptance for August 2013 as well!

I was thinking of deferring to January but decided not to as I saw that they've changed to requirements for the January intake - A&P has to be completed within 3 years and I took mine about 4-5 years ago. So I'm starting for sure in August just to be safe! Now I just really need to brush up on A&P until classes start because I feel like I've forgotten almost everything which is making me super nervous!

Anyway, I was also looking at the course schedule and we have microbiology in Level 2. I've already taken it when I was in university over in California... anybody have past experiences/know of anyone that was able to transfer their microbiology course to BCIT?

Thanks and congrats to everyone that's made it this far :)

@ ilovesushi, congrats! I don't know about the microbiology but I was wondering where you saw the course schedule? I'm also starting in August but I don't see anything in mybcit. I was thinking we would find schedules there after immunizations/criminal checks are completed?

Ilovesushi,

Congrats, welcome to the team!

That's a good idea, an A & P refresher will serve you well. I'm doing that too at the moment. As for microbiology, you would have to apply for a transfer credit to determine if your microbiology course will transfer over.

careubc,

The tentative course list is on the BCIT website.
