AUS RN to USA HELP!

Hi!

I am currently in the process of obtaining my RN licence in the USA. I have gone through CGFNS and they have deemed me as not having enough hours in paediatrics and obstetrics. (This was when I was in university). I currently working in PACU looking after Paediatric and Obstetric patients however CGFNS will not accept these hours as they don't come directly from my university.

Does anyone have any recommendations as to what my next step would be? I have been stuck in the CGFNS loop for the past two years and I am truly at a loss as to what to do. I have been looking at accelerated BSN degrees, but even they haven't been able to help me out and are saying that I need to be an RN in the USA already to do these degrees?

Would really appreciate any advice!

CGFNS don’t take work experience into account as report just looks at transcripts and clinical and theory hours. Sometimes the BON will take experience into account. Have you tried speaking to them? Also there are a few schools in California that accept international students to make up these hours but isn’t cheap. Suggest a search on some California threads for names

Thank you for that, I am new to these forums. I have contacted the Wisconsin BON however I haven't heard back, that was only a couple of days ago however. Thanks!

Hi, I'm in the same situation, although I haven't submitted anything as yet. I have post grad quals in vocational and adult ed and critical care as well as a masters in Education. I too work in PACU at the kids hospital and also as a CNC in the community (kids obesity clinic)....what do you think? I just want to sit the NCLEX and get a licence to practice in Pennsylvania!

Unfortunately, unless you have the paediatric hours attached to the University subject they won’t accept them. I have now found a University in America that will allow me to do these subjects again with the attached clinical hours. It’s ridiculous, but if that’s what the want.

@gigi894

What university in America have you found that will allow you to do these subjects

I am in the same process, I would love to get in touch with you to see if we can help each other out! I work in Emergencey so I work in Peads as well and see Obs & Gynae patients, but unsure if this will be up to scratch!

Lets get in contact!

Baker college- Jackson, Michigan

University of Michigan

I just emailed multiple universities/ colleges asking if I could just do the subjects as stand alone subjects. I’m going to do it thru Baker college as it’s going to be closer for me

Okay cool, are you going to be doing it in America or online?

Have you got a visa yet? How will you study ?

In America. I’m going through the process of a fiancé visa and then adjusting status as my partner is American. Otherwise I wouldn’t be making the move

I'm probably going to have to do the fiancé visa too. I’m going to dig up my transcripts & search for the paed component!! Fingers crossed. So, they don’t count work experience ie working with paeds or obg/yn pts??

Generally you need clinical and theory hours on your transcripts

Yes they don’t count unfortunately. You will have to go through CGFNS and then your university will send through the transcripts etc.

I have my transcripts, can I send them to CGFNS? I am so confused with the process and Pennsylvania nursing board aren't taking any phone calls at the moment. Thanks for your replys and support. :)
