Article 15 and BSN concerns

I graduate nursing school in 2019. So about halfway through right now, and I was wondering about prior military service for the nursing boards and job application. In June 2014, I received an Article 15 for, wrongful use of a military computer. Basically I sent an email as a reply all to the entire base instead of to select individuals. It was a meme about military life. Nothing offensive. and some higher up colonel on base got butt hurt and for my mistake forced my command to give me an article 15 for wrongful use of military equipment. That's literally it. I wasn't jailed. I wasn't arrested. My only punishment was a reduction in rank. I still served my full term and got an Honorable Discharge. This is my dream job and I won't don't want to jeopardize my future as BSN-CFRN (flight nurse) one day.

I receved no conviction, no court martial, no arrest, no jail time, or anything crazy. I reported to my commander in her office and that's was about it. Just reduction in one rank as punishment. I still served my full 4yrs and recieved an honorable discharge.

Should I be worried and if so what should I do. I've worked so hard for this and I don't want a civilian organization aka civilian nursing board to think I did drugs or got a DUI or something bad. Should I mention it and if so how do I get it across to them that it was stupid. I really don't want something that was stupid and small to affect my future career.

As with the rest of your job apps, at most, you will probably find a question about the character of the discharge, if that. Nursing does not care about your military service unless you are applying to the VA or to a job at a military base as a civilian nurse. And your Art 15 has absolutely nothing to do with you getting a nursing license. You are worrying over next to nothing.

I wouldn't worry about it. I currently work with a BSN who was prior Army who also got a reduction in rank. The only reason I know about this is because he told me while we were talking about service. On all the applications I've ever filled out, the only thing they actually care for is the condition of discharge. What you choose to disclose after that is up to you. From what I've seen, the only time people really care much about your condition of discharge is in the government sector. If you have an honorable discharge (and you have a good reenlistment code) then you aren't likely have problems getting a government job either. Speed-bumps in your military career matter far less than its final condition. You're good.

Thank you. I posted a link to an article by a lawyer, in the OP's other thread, describing how non-judicial punishment can show on a criminal records check if there was either an arrest or investigation by either military police or the service's criminal investigation agency. As the OP stated in that post that neither of these occurred, and that it did not show in a criminal background check, he or she is likely going to fine.

However, I find this story somewhat incredulous and can't help thinking that there is much more than we are being told.

I've seen NJPs for sunburns. It's up to the command and how they choose to persue it. Improper use of government equipment fits. Even malingering is a violation of the UCMJ. Getting busted down for any myriad of offenses by NJP is not at all uncommon in the enlisted ranks. Now, I'd be worried if the OP were talking about a Court Marshal. That is serious.

Article 15 shows on the FBI background check. You will be fine just disclose the details and hopefully you still have copy of your DA form
