Hi there,
I 'm trying to figure out how to start the prerequisites at ivy tech indianapolis. I intend to do an Accelerated Nursing Program, hopefully at IUPUI. I didn't finish my school in USA, I'm not a native-speaker do I need TEOFL for prerequisites? ( I know I need TEOFL for nursing school, I just wouldn't want to hurry with that as the test is available only for 2 years and I'm not sure how long it will take me to get in the program). Any help in figuring all these out is much appreciate it. Thx!

Please contact the admissions office at Ivy Tech. They can give you the definitive answer to your question. They have an office devoted to transfer students as well.

I agree with PP. I know a few international students who have taken classes at Ivy Tech Lafayette with the intention of transferring to Purdue. I'm sure the office at Ivy Tech is not unfamiliar with your situation. They will offer the best advice for you.

What is a TEOFL? Not sure what that is. But just go in and talk to an admissions officer at Ivy Tech. They are very helpful. If you look on INtransfer.net it will tell you which classes will transfer to IUPUI. Most of Ivy Tech's classes transfer as it is community college geared towards those who want to transfer and get their 4 year degree. The fall semester starts August 25th so I would go in now and talk to someone before all of the classes fill up.
TOEFL = Test of English as a Foreign Language. A standard test required by schools for students whose first language is not English.

I think we had 3 in the LPN and RN program together at the Lawrence campus.
I don't know about TEOFL(you need to talk to an advisory), but since I have gone through the nursing program at Ivy Tech Lawrence, I can tell you this.
First, you have to have your basic placement test to see what English and what math you can take. If you do poorly on these tests, you have to take remedial classes which add time and cost to taking the pre-reqs.
Basically, you have to have ENGL 111 (English comp) and a MATH 13X (college algebra). English 111 is part of the section process, so you need to do really well in this class. Ivy tech's nursing program selection is based on a point system. ENGL 111, PSYC 101, and APHY 101 and 102 carrying double weight plus your TEAS score are added together to make up your score.
In addition, you must also have IVYT 1XX,COMM 101 or 102, and a Social/Behavioral Science Elective ( PSYC 2XX or SOCI 1XX) done before you apply. This totals 22 credit hours or about two semesters. There are actually two co-req that must also be done before you finish the nursing program which equal another 6-8 credit hours. The admission dates are as follows:
For Fall Admission April 1
For Spring Admission September 1
For Summer Admission 1 February (if I remember correctly only LPN and medics can apply for the summer)
I am not sure of the start and end dates, but if I remember correctly at least one semester is lost because of the end and start dates.
Thank you for your help!
One more question, what do you do to start your prerequisites? Where and how do you apply for the classes?
Well, it doesn't matter where you do your prereqs, although doing them at Ivy Tech will probably save you a considerable amount of money rather than applying to a state college. You want to make sure your credits will be transferable though. You'll need to speak with an advisor, but I do believe you can register for classes online after applying and being accepted into Ivy Tech.
In response to my own question, in case anybody needs this information, I do not need to take the TEOFL exam, I am seen as a domestic student, I will need to take the ivy tech assessment in writing, reading and math.
You can apply online. It is really easy. They will send you something usually a couple of days after applying about whether you have been accepted or not. You then take the accuplacer to see where you are in math and english. Then you will meet with an advisor who goes over the accuplacer results and what classes you need. Once you have completed 15 credit hours you will go to a nursing advisor. I had to take a couple remedial algebra classes and am now doing college algebra this summer. I will be starting the program August 25th. Good Luck!!
how soon could i start after I get my accuplacer results? I've seen there's an Ivy tech center on Michigan rd, close to the Pyramids in indianapolis, could I take my classes there? Thx
