Anatomy @ Macomb CC

I didn't take it at MCC, but I took both A&P 1+2 over 8 week courses this last summer. I thought it was manageable, and if I would've known, I probably would've taken another class with them.

I'd say try taking A+P over the summer if you need to. It isolates the class by itself, and you are only focusing on one subject - so I liked that aspect.

Anyone took Anatomy at Macomb in a 6 week summer session? Would you recommend taking it in the summer for 6 weeks or take it in the 16 week session? :banghead:Not really sure which route to take. Any feedback would be appreciated. Don't want to kill myself taking it in the summer if its going to be tooooooo hard!

It depends on how desperately you need an A . It could depend on which professor you end up with whether you find it manageable. I took it over 16 wks and did well (A), I'm not sure what it would have been like cramming it. I know that with nursing courses crammed into 4 wks my grades have dropped (but the grading scale is more stringent too). If you don't have any outside distractions you would probably do allright.

Personally I would take A&P in the winter. It is the most important prereq once you get into the program. You could prob do ok in the summer if that is your only obligation, but you might be cutting yourself short by cramming in the info so quick. I know people who have done it both ways. You will have to recall a lot of that info once you are in the program. Just my own personal thoughts. Good Luck!!

i took it in the accelerated 6 weeks over the summer.....it's one of those memories your brain blocks out ....i really think it depends on the person, i found it to be alright because its crammed down your throat, lecture, lecture, exam...so it stays fresh, you eat, sleep, and breath a & p, but that worked well for me, some people prefer the longer coorifice.

I took anatomy at south campus with Prof. Bouwman and it was hard to pass even in 16 weeks let alone 6. I've heard that the center campus a&p courses are much easier. If you need to get an A do not take Bouwman at all. I got the highest grade in both her classes the semester I took it and it was a B-. If you don't need the A though, her class is pretty cool (even though terribly frustrating with all the info she expects you to know) and you get to use cadavers.

I also took A&P with Bouwman. It was a very challenging course, and since it is TWO semesters of A&P in one (which is why I took it) it can be a lot of information. If you only have one semester to take it, I would recommend NOT taking it in a shortened summer course. Other wise, if you can split it up into two semesters, which less stress and info, OCC is susposed to be really easy. However I would caution you on OCC. I have heard that the students dont really learn anything, and its sort of a joke.

At MCC I learned ALOT, and I was happy for it, because all of that information was wonderful to have when I took Pathophysiology and Pharmacology. I got an A in the class, although I was the only one. Be prepared to study EVERY day, and you will be happy you did, because it tends to weed out the slackers, and you end up with like 10 people or less, so you get alot more direction and hands on experience from the Professor.

I know that the course at the MCC center campus does not use cadavers, so make sure your program is specific as to whether or not they require them.

Yes! If you take Bouwman you have to study every single day. It's a great class and she's a great professor but it's crazy hard. You will learn a lot and some people might even get an A but you can't count on it even if you're an A student. If I had to chose I would take it again but not if I was using that grade to get into MCC's nursing program.

I am in that class now and i study every day it just seems liek too much for me to remember....any tips for me

Getting a study buddy really helped me. Originally, she had asked me to help her study since I was doing pretty good (or at least passing. lol.) but studying with her really helped things stick. Also, make sure that you are not just memorizing the information but actually understanding it first. If you don't understand it you will not be able to memorize it. Having a study buddy is good for that because they may have something in their notes that will clarify something that you were unable to catch. I always wrote down the page numbers that she referred to during lecture and used the book for clarification as well. Use the CD-ROM's that came with the book!! They are amazing at teaching the concepts especially when it comes to the Nervous System and Action Potentials. Good Luck!!:bowingpurand pray. lol.

Did you have any idea about the class before you chose that one (It definately has a rep, as does the instructor)? I knew the south campus A&P was hard enough that more than half the class usually didn't pass it. I had a few people who failed out of her class in my anatomy class at center campus. They passed with Bs the second time taking it with me.

can anyone tell me how long the wait list is for MCC... I was on the website but I found it some what confusing :-( I also would like to know which pre-reqs need to be completed b4 applying??? Thanks a bunch for any info you can give me!!!
