AF interview with CNO

Hey there,

Also in NC. My CNO interview took place at SJAFB. You should be familiar with the Air Force mission and the core values. Also I was asked about specific examples that showed evidence of critical thinking and had to give an example of a previously encountered ethical dilemma. The rest of the interview was basic questions that many others have mentioned including readiness to deploy for yourself and your family, willingness to carry firearms, strengths and weaknesses, etc. Best of luck to you.

Just try to relax! It honestly was not that different from previous interviews I've experienced other than the obviously military specific questions. Let us know how it goes. :)

I would definitely bring some questions with you. The chief nurse is usually extremely knowledgeable and well connected. You could go over the strengths and weaknesses of various bases/locations to make your dream sheet better.

Ask about the incentive special pay (ISP). It's $20K per year for a 4 year deal for ER now. Accession bonuses and loan repayment that you take when you join make you ineligible for incentive special pay for 3-6 years depending on what you take. It is worth asking if it might be worth it to not take any money when you join so that you can take more money later.

Thanks for the ideas about questions. I don't even know where to begin with questions. I'm sure I have a lot since I'd be transitioning from civilian life to military life with a family and all

Like they said know the AF mission and core values. Other things will be typical interview questions. What I was most surprised by was questions regarding how my family felt about my joining the AF and deployments. The Chief Nurse is usually very easy to talk to. Last thing I would tell you to think about is your 5 year and 10 year goals. My CN always asks me these, from the day I interviewed and even now 7 years later.

What area of nursing did you interview for? Do you feel like it went well? I didn't think we got to know the results of the interview, were you told that we would find out?

I applied for a clinical nurse position (medsurg or clinic). It seemed to go well, I felt like we had good conversation... I don't know the results at all. It did take an hour and she said she would send her information in within a week or so. How did yours go?

Hi fellow nurses-

I am also currently trying to apply for the boards that meet in January because the wonderful recruiter did not get my physical or interview set up in time for the Nov boards. I see you guys are in NC and I also am in NC. Have you guys heard anything yet and was your recruiter out of Raleigh by chance??
