Hello! My name is faria. I’m taking my board end of this month. I have taken NCLEX 6 times and unfortunately I haven’t passed! I’m not upset. Every time I have failed NCLEX it made me stronger!
My friend suggested that I get accommodations (doctors order) for my test, which I wasn’t aware of. She had accommodations when she took her boards exam. She recommended that I had 3 hours of extended period of time and a private, which will help me tremendously. I spoke with my doc and after 3 months she wrote me accommodation letter.. which I picked it up yesterday!
On the letter it said, I have anxiety and panic attacks. She also put under pressure my symptoms get worse. I have anxiety but I don’t think I have panic disorder! She didn’t type on the letter how many hours of extended period I need and she didn’t even typed I needed a private room!
I forgot to mention that she typed me a letter before and the boards denied it because she only put that I need accommodations for my condition!
I know the board needs a more detailed letter ... so my question ?♀️... Is sending the accommodations to the board a smart move? Will I get my license if I pass the test?
I’m scared because... 1) They might not let me sit for boards. 2) or, They may not allow me to be nurse (license) because of what the letter states - have panic attacks and anxiety. Who would wanna give me a license if I have anxiety & panic disorder.
IDK if my question makes sense! Sorry if this is confusing.

Before you go forward with another attempt, you need to look at alternative reasons why you failed six times.
Did you run out of time on all your previous attempts? Asking for more time for the test is irrelevant if your tests are ending with an hour left on the clock.
You had six attempts at the test, so you should have a good grasp of NCLEX style questions. How is your performance when studying for the test? Are you getting high scores during practice, but fail when it comes to the actual test?
What kind of grades did you get in school and what is the NCLEX pass rate for the school? These will indicate how well you understood the content in school and how well the school prepared you for the test.
I would look into an NCLEX tutor, so they can focus in on what your weaknesses are. The old cliché is "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expect a different result". You study the same material and the same practice tests each of the six tests and expect a different result. You need to find where you are going wrong and correct it before attempting the test again.

Sounds like you need a refresher course more than accommodations.

I'm not sure if a private room is really reasonable to ask for. Sure there may be some testing centers that are able to provide this, but I've been to some centers where it's just one big room with computers and that's all they have.
You have taken NCLEX six times. I have to agree with the other posts, I don't necessarily think it's all due to your symptoms while taking NCLEX. Some students take NCLEX in 75 questions and are even done in 1 hour and pass. I'm not saying you need to finish in 1 hour, but if you truly knew the material and studied, you could possibly do 75 questions in 3 - 5 hours and pass without accommodations. NCLEX permits up to 5 hours so it's more than enough time to take the test.
I also suggest to find a good, recommended tutor and start making a study plan. You may also need to check with your nursing board if they even allow a seventh time to take NCLEX . Many state boards allow up to three, so before you make plans to take the test again, double-check you are eligible.
Good luck!
Thank you for replying! Another reason for my accommodations is that I every time I set for boards I always ran out of time, I would take the whole 5 hours. My last day to test is august 10 & I found out that it takes a lot of time for boards to process accommodations which I wasn’t aware of.. I’m going on with no accommodations! Pray ? for me so I pass my test.

Interpreting NCLEX questions can be difficult when English is your primary language. The fact that English is not your primary language may be the cause of your failures and not your anxiety. You need to stop throwing your money away taking NCLEX without correcting the problem. I suggest finding a NCLEX tutor that speaks your primary language. Your problem may be when you are translating the question in your head into your primary language, you may incorrectly translating what the question is asking.

You seem to believe that the only reason that you keep failing is because you ran out of time and having accommodations will allow you to finish the test before you run out of time and allow you to pass. You are not understanding how the computer determines if you pass or fail when you run out of time. Running out of time is not an automatic fail. The computer looks at the last 60 questions to determine if you were above the passing standard for all 60 questions. If you were, you pass. If you dropped below the passing standard at any point during those 60 questions, you fail.

Thank you so much for replying! That makes so much sense, wow. I never thought of it like that.. Now I understand what you mean! That isnabsolutely ? correct, thank you for opening my eyes ?
I just remembered why my friend wanted to get extended period of time! I usually take a long time on NCLEX questions, & having English as a second that I struggle with sometimes take a long time to understand a question ?♀️ so she said if I have extended time I will able to pass if that makes sense LOL.

It does and it doesn't make sense. While I can sympathize, given that you are struggling to read a question in your non-native language and understand what it's asking, it still doesn't completely account for the fact you have failed NCLEX six times, when given five hours to pass. As I mentioned above in my previous post:
" Some students take NCLEX in 75 questions and are even done in 1 hour and pass. I'm not saying you need to finish in 1 hour, but if you truly knew the material and studied, you could possibly do 75 questions in 3 - 5 hours and pass without accommodations. FYI: 75 questions is the minimum amount of questions needed to pass NCLEX nowadays.
75 questions in 3 hours would mean: 25 questions per hour / Almost 2.5 mins per question
75 questions in 5 hours would mean: 12.5 questions per hour / Almost 5 minutes per question
I hate to say it, but if you are spending more than 3-5 minutes per question, there is a need for a tutor and refresher courses. I'm not trying to shame you, but I think it's something you need to hear and make a plan of action so you can pass and not keep throwing money away taking NCLEX , when you need more preparation.
You’re absolutely correct ? I agree with you! I need to look into getting a tutor, thank you so much. Thank you for replying.. I appreciate it. & no your not shaming me at all! I’m getting encouraged.
