Hey guys! I got an acceptance letter to one of the nursing programs I applied to ) It is a diploma program (RN). I just want to know what I should do during the summer while I wait to start. Are there certain things that I should really review? I am looking for any helpful tips for this journey as well! I cannot wait to start and thank you in advance for anything you post.

Enjoy your free time. Once you get into nursing school you will have none.

Are your vaccinations, CPR, background check and all done? That is keeping me busy! I was freaking out on the background check, because it took a few days and I was like, Daaaaang, what is going ON?????? But finally I got notification that all that is clear, and I am doing my vaccinations tomorrow. Drug test Friday. Then I am done! And the waiting for orientation will be agonizing! I also went ahead and bought my Fundamentals Book so I could pre read. Do you guys have your packet yet with all your info on what to do to get ready?
I don't have my packet yet, but I know I will get one when I turn in the forms that came with my acceptance letter, the tuition deposit, and background check fee. I am signed up for a CPR class for this Saturday! My orientation will be on August 8th
Our background check and document tracker is certified background. You just get your package code and go on the website and pay the fee (110.00). Then they perform the background check and upload it to your profile so your school can see it, and you download and print your health forms and vaccination forms, get that done and filled out by your doctor, then scan and upload them to your profile and your school can access your profile. It's pretty neat. So much to do though, by August 2. Orientation for me is the 12th of August and classes start the 26th.
I think ours is done differently. We got a criminal background check in our acceptance packet and it only cost 30.00

I think I would begin looking at your vaccinations and see which ones you may need. If you do not have your hepatitis B, then I would start with that one. Don't get titers drawn if you know you didn't have the vaccine. I knew I didn't have my hep B so I had all the other ones drawn.

Or, if you can find someone a semester or two ahead of you and ask them what to study. You can go to Unites States, find your state and then flick on the top link that takes you to threads for specific programs. Start a thread there asking for suggestions on things to read. I'm sending my reading list from first semester to someone starting in the fall. Good luck to you!

If you can stand it, wait as long as possible to begin reading. There will be so much allll year and by the end, most of my peers and I were simply burnt out from SO much reading and studying. I would (highly) suggest getting to the gym as much as possible. Your body needs to begin to endure long mental and physical hours! Not to mention lifting some weights for strength to move patients around. Just my two cents. Congrats and good luck! Also Saunders has a great NCLEX review book&cd that I would encourage you to use all year while studying :)

Get an nclex review book with questions and answers like Saunders. This will give you a general overview of everything you are expected to learn in nursing school
