But oon the positive side, I've gotten all my committee stuff done and scheduals done!
We were so busy a week ago and now only 13 little ones.
How is everyone elses spring going?

We're slow right now, too. A couple of months back we were crazy busy, almost max capacity, with probably 1/3 of the unit on vents, many HFOV or with nitric. Now all those kids are getting ready to go home, so we have all kinds of chronic stuff with just a couple of newer babies on vents. Lots of crankypants going on, all of them tootin' like mad from the Neosure.

Lots of rocking then!? Try filling a glove with warm water and placing that on the babe's abd. (with a wash cloth wrapped around to be safe) and than swaddle the baby....ussually helps them get a better nights sleep.
I've been working charge, and is that ever slow for 12 hours when you've all the unit stuff done! Thought I'd be cancelled tonight...but ill calls and requests off and Here I am!
Don't know what I'll do tonignt...maybe try and find some new cards for the bereavement stuff, our Preg. & Infant Loss Center is no longer...the other cards are from The Sometimes line in IA....but would like one more. Maybe we'll design our own.
Just a question...what do you guys get paid for working charge? We get maybe $.35 an hour...shameful I think....but than tonight I'm not worth even that!
Believe me, we try everything! I usually get a really warm blanket and put that against the baby's belly, and put him on his abdomen for an hour or so to help break up the gas. And I'm a bigtime swaddler - my kids look like burritos! I wish our hospital would change to Enfacare, as I hear that it causes less gas and constipation. Some of our kids on 27cal/oz Neosure need mylecon drops for gas, or prune juice for chronic constipiation. Grrrrrrr!
We get $1/hr extra for charge.

Canceled at 5:30 this morning! Grrrrr! Nothing really on our unit either, just a bunch of chronics born in January.
I'm fighting the temptation to request off on Sunday night....but really should work to have that little extra cash!
BTW - tonight was much more active....an admit (A Care) and I have two pts and working charge...finally getting a potty break at 6 am! So as we all know it all balances out! :)

Looks like everyone had a lower census for a while. I think our lasted a couple of weeks or so, then the babies came back with a vengeance.....all those little 35 weekers, several on vents. Also 28, 29 and 31 weekers all doing well, after an initial rough start. Isn't betamethasone wonderful!
Dood! I was cancelled again today! :angryfire I am praying for a couple of multiples to come in! :chuckle

Two weeks ago we were swamped with babies (vents, multiple births. etc.....) but now the unit has only 13 babies so it has slowed down a lil bit......I do not know what to expect when I return to work but the summer is coming which means more blackouts and more romance and more babies being made.......lol......so I plan to enjoy the break for now.

Wow, sounds like it's slow all over. My nursery cencus has been down for quite some time now...They are actually doing mandatory cancellations! We're also getting pulled to general nursery. Not used to having 7-10 babies!! Hope the census goes up soon! Linda
