5 semesters at a community college and 4 rejection letters..Is this God's way of saying Nursing isn't for me? I use to be so passionate about Nursing and the other day, something hit me..I started thinking about what I really want to do with my life...I don't know if I wanna play the role of a Nurse for the rest of my career life..Am I just discouraged?? How do I know Nursing isn't for me./...Funny thing is, I have no clue what I want to pursue..Im currently a Liberal arts student graduating after 1 more semester...what do I do? I dont know what I like..Sounds silly but it's true..Im very young so I guess im just growing.. Nursing was so popular and I knew they made descent..well PRETTY GOOD money, so I researched and fell in love..Now I am clueless as to what I wanna do with my life! any advice? I thought about teaching but how much do they make a year? Yes you have to love your job but I have to get paid well enough inorder to wake up in the morning happy about where I am going...Help!

Maybe another job in healthcare. Your pre-reqs will probably be the same as for nursing. Radiologic Technologist, Physical therapist, occupational therapist, speech therapist, dental hygienist. Try one of those online career tests, maybe it will point you in the right direction.

in order to learn more about nursing - maybe you could shadow a nurse for a few days
health care is wide field so you can pursue nursing or various other professions (occupational therapist, physiotherapist, dietitian, physician, psychologist, prosthetist, pharmacist, social worker, speech therapist)
or teaching is fine career (I don't know the salary) - have met lots of people who go into teaching - some stick with it - others find that it isn't for them
or a child and youth worker
there are so many fields to choose - languages, English, economics (be a financial advisor, work for insurance, work in a bank)
actually - look in the course calendars to see various programs that are offered
It depends how much education you want to achieve.
You can work towards an Masters or a PHd - and then teach and do research.
Or you can work towards specific skills - computers, welding, etc there are so many to consider.
Get yourself some course calendars

don't get too discouraged. If you hang out here, you'll see how many are waiting for acceptance into a nursing program. did you apply to more than one program?

Somebody once told me, that medicine doesn't want YOU, you have to want IT.
You have to bust your butt to get in, then, once you're in, you have to continue busting your butt to stay in. Maybe going directly into an RN position is not the right track for you, you can always start as an LVN, and take a bridge program into RN. Takes almost the same amount of time, and that way you'll be working sooner, and might have an edge over the rest of the applicants next time you apply. My two cents.

Another thought is...can you contact successful applicants to find out what objectives/skills they possess that may have helped them obtain entry? Then may be you can work towards gaining those, to make yourself more appealing to the selectors. Have confidence in your positive attributes, and emphasize them. Don't give up, if it is what you truly want, then continue to work towards it. Best of luck

Personally, while I believe in God, I'm not convinced he gives us signs on what we should choose for a career. You have to do something you love or you'll be miserable. You know the answer, you just have to look for it. My mother always told me, "do what you love and the money will follow".
After applying to NS multiple times I decided I needed to reevaluate. After alot of consideration I changed my major to poli sci. You need to determine what makes you happy, what makes you excited. I assume you like helping people. There's lots of careers out there that help people: social worker, radiology tech, teacher, counselor, even lawyers on occassion have been known to help people. :)
Can you see yourself sitting behind a desk or do you want to be more hands on?
Good luck!

God doesn't seem to intervene in human affairs very often, therefore I don't think this is a message from God. I have heard that there is a shortage of nursing slots due to a shortage of instructors, that might be the problem.

Long time ago, primitive people perceived events that they could not control or things that they could not explain as God's will or acts.
I think it's somehow part of human's defense mechanism to think this way when unfortunate events or things are getting out of control in their lives. That way of thinking temporarily shields them from harsh reality until they are able to recollect, recover and put another fight or give up by convincing themselves that God does not want them to go that way.
Personally, I would have thought the same way ,too, after waiting for almost three years ( I even earned my associate degree in liberal arts science while waiting )to get accepted in a nursing school then just failed med-surg, in my second semester. I was devastated because there was no repeat allowed, so I got kicked out of nursing school.
I applied in another school while taking different classes just to stay in school as the nursing department required to get accepted in the nursing program in that school.
After A year and half, I was finally a nursing student (again!)
I changed my strategy for studying, gave every once of my effort to pass all my classes. Out of 65 nursing students, I was among 18 students who made it through graduation.
I could have given up and succumbed to the thought that maybe God did not want me to be a nurse plus my advisor in the first nursing program I attended told me that "nursing is not for everyone. You should consider changing your major to computer engineering'.
My advice to you: Whatever it takes to follow your dream, do it because you will never feel satisfy in life if you go the other way since this feeling reflects your personal values.
Who knows, you might be able to impress God with your Tenacity.

jlsRN, I'm sorry you feel this way. God intervenes in my life all the time. We just need to learn how to decern his will. He's the one that put me in the situation to go to school and given me the thirst for knowledge.
As for Aspiring Nurse's situation, you used the word "Passionate", but in the past tense. I understand that being rejected 4 times can be very discouraging. But when you listed the reasons why you wanted to be a nurse, money seemed to be your main reason to do it. Therefore, I can only assume that you are "passionate" about "money". Maybe, God wants you to really evaluate your motives. I'm not saying that he doesn't want you to be a nurse, but purhaps, he just wants you to do it for the right reasons.
There are much easier ways to get money. And Nurses don't get paid near enough for what they do.
Good luck and God Bless
