A cat...

Update: Provoked. Figures. Cat was hiding behind the bleachers, came running out, student went against teachers orders and grabbed the cat and said "It's just a cat". Cat laid into his arm. Dork!

Cat bites can be bad. Hope he's OK. Who would have expected a cat in the gym?

Last year, I had a student get bit by a dog right outside before school. She called mom using her cell phone, who in turn called 911 instead of the school. Well, I had already called animal control and was cleaning the bite (no broken skin) when the police showed up. After all of that - the parents then refused to come get the kid.

The principal insisted they follow up with a physician especially after they had called 911! From eyewitness accounts - the student had kicked the dog several times.

Well, at least no 2 days in school nursing are ever the same!!

was this girl reported for animal cruelty? she needs to be held accountable, or she will never learn and may not be so lucky next time.....if the dog didnt break the skin, was probably giving a warning rather than actually trying to bite.....i really hate when persons attack animals this way.....as far as the parents not coming to get the kid, maybe they figured out that she WANTED out of school....

Yeah, I think I would have at the very least given these kids a stern lecture about how to treat animals, along with a follow up lecture to the parents (and maybe a not-so-subtle reminder that many adults who commit crimes against people get their start by harming animals. I have little tolerance for those who are unkind to ANY creature that cannot defend itself, human and animal alike.

I wanted to add- I don't think he grabbed the cat with malicious intent. He's a kind student, just doesn't think things through all the way before acting. I think he had planned to take the cat outside, while the cat obviously saw him as a threat. It was a stray, so it's being with animal control in quarantine for 10 days.

well sorry for that, but he had been explicitly instructed not to do what he did.......it is something that needs to be learned the hard way sometimes......hope he is ok, and the cat too

I'm glad there was no malicious intent. As for the story about the other student kicking the dog, though...I hope there were repercussions.

Last year one of my student was bit on the arm by a dog, this happened at after after school, immediately after the students were dismissed.

We had to call Animal control also and I believe the dog was taken away for a couple of days.

The dog belonged to one of the parents at the school, so needless to say we have a " no dog on school grounds rule"
