A&PII with Micro

Published

Hi ladies!

I haven't seen any updated answers to this question so I figured I would give it a shot!

I am aiming to apply for the fall 2017 nursing program. I have taken and gotten A's in all of the prereqs and general classes that I need. My last two would be a&pII and micro. I want to take them together in hopes that it will up my chances of getting into the program but am worried about the load! I won't be working! Which is a plus. Just wanted to get some advice on whether it's an ok idea or if I should just take a&pII next semester and Micro for 6 weeks in the summer

Thanks!!!

Hello!

Even though you have addressed your post to the ladies, I'm going to give you my 2 cents here...

Everyone is different, but generally speaking... if you are not going to be working, taking just Microbiology and A&P at the same time should be fine. It does not give you points to enter nursing school, but it gives you the summer off... heck, who wouldn't want the summer off ?!

Lol so sorry!!

Thanks for the reply! I really appreciate it. I've already registered for both but people on campus have given me quite a few different answers and I just needed someone else to tell me that it's going to be ok!! Thanks again! :)

I am currently taking AP II with Microbiology as well as Statistics. They mesh very well together. This semester is easier for me than last semester when I took AP I and Gen. Chem I as I was always bouncing between 'chemistry brain' and 'biology brain'. I currently have a 98% in Micro, 96% in AP II, and a 93% in Statistics. I will also add that this depends on the instructors that you have. Find out who the good professor are (good does not mean easy; you want the best grade but you also need to know your stuff).

If all you are taken is those two classes + not working + a good track record in previous prereqs I would go for it.

I'm taking A&P II and Micro at the same time (next semester). I decided to do so based on feedback from my A&P I teacher (she thinks I can do it, no problem), the feedback on the Micro teacher (previous students, and rate my professor) and the fact that I'm a pretty good student with good study habits. I'll be taking Government and World Religions along with those two sciences.

I don't know if you can do it - only you know that. But I think it's doable.

That's what I try telling myself.. I know others are taking these two plus 2 more classes (as you are).. So I guess it is doable. I'll probably just have no life next semester lol

You might not - but for what it's worth, I'm taking 14 credit hours right now and have plenty of time to do fun stuff, too!

Personally, I wouldn't recommend it. I don't know about your school, but at mine micro is one of the most hated classes by everyone. Most people choose to take it in summer so that they will be able to take it just by itself and focus just on that, because it does take a lot of focus. If you were going to take another class with it, I wouldn't recommend A&P II, A&P II is definitely not as bad as micro, but it is pretty challenging too.

I would only suggest doing so if you have taken sciences before and you understand the workload you are getting yourself into. I would also only do it if you know the type of Professors that will be teaching the classes. At my college, some of the people that double up on sciences usually get overwhelmed and others do fine. I know I'm not that good at managing two sciences. More power and respect to you if you do. I would only recommend you make sure you have the time for it. Good Luck!

I don't have any advice to offer, but I wanted to comment that I'm planning on taking those same courses next semester and I'm applying for the fall 2017 nursing program as well. I'm not working and will also be taking lifespan and nutrition online. I'm going to be a nut case come spring but I have to do it. Good luck to you.

Also not a lady, but I'll check in as well.

I took A&P II with Micro at the same time, and it was a rough semester. If I wasn't in class, lab, or eating a meal, I was basically studying. I got very strong As in both classes, but you need to understand that to be successful in both courses, you're going to have to pour in a ton of work. I'd conservatively say you need around 30 hours a week of EXTRA STUDY TIME to nab As in both courses. This means time outside of lecture and lab.

Good luck. It's totally possible, just be ready to make some social/sleep sacrifices.

I'm taking micro, ap 2, human growth and development, and nutrition this semester. I too decided to do this to enter my nursing program in January with all my sciences complete. I made sure to get good professors which makes a huge difference (and one of my classes is online which helps). I think especially if you're not working its doable for sure! Good luck! :)
