A & P Classes for people who are nurses already?

I graduated from the first LPN class that my community college offered, and their requirement is that we take college level Anatomy and Physiology classes (as well as Psychology and English classes) that can be transfered into an RN program. Actually, I was a bit annoyed with that because I never felt that all of those details that I had to learn for those anatomy classes were really utilized once I started the nursing program. I mean, it was deeper that what I ever learned as a medical assistant or CNA, however, once I started, the beginning chapters just glossed over the necessary components of anatomy needed to understand the disease process. I did take microbiology, sociology and abnormal psychology, but that was simply because I felt like it.

I think it's a blessing that you were told to take those college level classes. It was told or encouraged and I think it would save any LPN a whole lot of time should you decide to further your education

I will try to clear this up but please note that i am ot an LPN...I decided to do my nursing pre-reqs (A&P1/2, Micro etc) because i was told that my LPN classes will not transfer over to my Comm. Col. because it is not a indepth as it is at the college level. Also the LPN school i plan on attending is a vocational school and there credits are not transferable....not sure why but that how it is...at least when i am finished with my LPN i can just go into the bridge program because i have done all the pre-reqs...

My LVN stuff didn't transfer either. I had 15+ yrs experience when I started back to school and felt I had a solid base, but no actual "college". Guess that's why it took me so long to go back to school- I knew I had to start at the bottom

I had to take everything over and i was a bit discouraged but I decided to take a class at a time as I could afford it. The governemnt decided I make too much money and I have to pay everything out of pocket. It took me 3 years but I've completed all my basic core except Micro which I'll be taking online. Well all my classes were online except my english and and algebra. Both my A&P's, my psych etc were online. I've even taken some BSN level courses online.

Anyway, it's stull a good thing to take college level core esp since it won't cost you more.

Hello. I'm a CNA who is going to become a LPN, then an RN. I was wondering exactly how much anatomy, physiology, and microbiology you LPNs had to learn during LPN school. I have looked into some transition programs at colleges to become RNs, and they all require LPNs to take their college's A & P and micro classes before the transition to RN.

*** IT depends on where you want to go to RN school. The school I went to did not require me to complete any more A&P and allowed me to enter the second year of nursing school and graduate as an ADN-RN in two semesters. There were 8 or 9 experienced LPNs in my class.

Thank you all for responding. I have to admit that I thought the A & P classes for RN school would just be a repeat of the A & P from LPN school, but I still find it interesting that people who are already nurses have to take A & P if they want to become a RN.

The A&P I took for LPN was very basic and did not have a lab requirement. The college level ones I took did.
