Advice for New Grad L&D Interview

Can anyone please share what to expect during my interview next week for a new grad residency program? I've always known L&D is where I want to be, and I feel so fortunate to have this interview! I want to do my very best to get the offer :) Thanks!

Hello! I recently received my first graduate nursing position as an L&D nurse. My interview asked a lot of prioritization questions (which patient will you see first), so it would be helpful to review your OB assessment and potential emergency scenarios in OB. Be prepared to talk about how you respond to grief and loss, especially if it's a high-risk maternity unit like mine. I also had questions about whether or not I'm confident in standing my ground when a provider is pushing me to increase pitocin or AROM.

Other than that, convey a genuine passion for patient/family-centered care, as well as the ability to think quickly on your feet. Obviously these are skills that come with time, but they want to know that YOU know how important those things are for this job. I hope this is helpful. Good luck - you'll do great!!

Congratulations! Where do you live? L&D is my dream :) How did it go?

I live in San Diego. It went well! I was told it would be 1-2 weeks for a decision, but I had a request from HR the day after the interview for my letters of recommendation (as I'm a new grad) to check my references. I'm hoping thats a good sign! I'm still waiting for my ATT to take the NLCEX though, so I'm really stressing out about that.
