Disapointed in myself

I got my test results back for Math 1101 (math modeling) and I got a freaking 66% ! I could not believe my eyes. Originally, I qualified for Algebra but I freaked out my first class and switched to math modeling because it was "easy". The course is not bad but I don't understand that woman. I am not sure what is going on, I had A's in both math 97 and 99 and now, this! I am just very disapointed in myself and feel like a complete failure.

I got a letter from Nursing school I applied for and basically, they are waiting for me to finish A&P I and Math to get in.

I am thinking of dropping the course, I would take Algebra in the summer.

I have A&PI, English and Psychology to keep me more than busy but man!

There goes my Dean's list :angryfire

Had to whine, sorry :(

Is your math 1101 class over now or was that just one test? Can you get a tutor since your teacher difficult to understand?

I have 1 more test before the withdrawl date. Yes, they offer tutoring but I prefer to do things myself. Sigh...

Hi,

Hold on there...doing less than great on one test in a class does not mean that you are off the dean's list. I know how you feel, truly do. I have dropped classes and then later found out how easy it is to just push through.

Possibly find out the last possible day for withdrawl...talk to your professor...find the tutor center...and ask your professor if she can meet with you or if she would recommend a Teacher's Assistant to tutor. Let her know your concerns and then ride it out dedicatedly until the last minute to see how you are doing.

When you are on the dean's list, one C or even a D is not going to trash your cumulative gradepoint average.

Breath in, breath out....

Good Luck!!

p.s. either way, do not berate yourself, you will make the choice you feel is right, keep the class or withdraw, weigh your options and do not panic(easier said, I know)

Thanks girls. I did go yesterday and dropped the class. What a relief! I found out that there are only 5 people left in that class, there was 34 of us to begin with. Ouch! I will take Algebra in the summer. :)

see, right away i saw that something was very wrong...29/34 students dropped the class...i would have definitely brought that to the attention of head of the math department. it seems as though this might be more of an instructor problem than a student problem. did you know h ow many people dropped before you did?

good luck with algebra!

Well, I found out about the 29 people today and I know Monday I was the 6th one to drop that day. Yes, it is definitely her problem. The class average was 67% and that is bad.

I'm glad you decided to drop it. I dropped a Algebra class b/c I couldn't understand the instructor's accent. Kind of hard to learn when someone has such a accent.

Good luck to you!

I'm sorry about your grade, but remember, you CAN'T do it yourself! That's why you're in class, silly! If you could do it, you wouldn't need to take the class. I do know what you mean though. I try to do studying on my own. I've not joined any nursing study groups, because I prefer to learn the stuff and review myself. But if you don't know it, you need to get help. Even if you just go to one tutoring session, you may get that "AHA!!" moment and realize where it was you were going wrong.

I know how you feel about math - it is definitely my weak spot, and I need to spend 10x as much time with it as everyone else. After last semester in Nursing Fundamentals though, I realize that once I get it, I've got it. And need to keep it by practicing and practicing.

You will get it, but don't be afraid to ask for help. THat's what the tutors are there for! Good luck! :)
