So after 5 long months finally found a hospital job in med/surg. But the bad news is it is three hours away....and it is per diem after 6 weeks of orientation. I was told it would turn into a position since the hospitals expansion will be complete the end of the year. My friends and family dont understand having to uproot my family from a beautiful area to a not so beautiful area. Only fellow job seekers can relate! The pro is my mom has a house near there that she does not live in and would not have to pay rent. But another con is my husband has a good job (not a lot of money but benefits and steady etc) and he would stay here for a while until?? We figure something out. Am i completely crazy!! My poor kids right? This is not at all how i though it would be!

Don't do it ,not for a per diem position. Per diem positions are tricky. You could have six days one week and no days the next. unless you would be making $40 - $50 per hour keep looking. recruiters will tell you anything. You would be amazed at how quickly they forget the offer of full time once they got you working per diem. That's my opinion. The final decision comes down to you.

I would be very worried taking something like that. Not to mention, the family split. 5 months is really not that long, I would continue looking for something in your area. If moving is an option, it should be a good match for all.

hi i just happen to run across this posting and like the others said i wouldn't do it to have to move your family and then you don't even know if you will like it and then what, I wouldn't take the chance

I would not move for per diem, you just never know if you would get any hours at all.

No way, why move away from a beautiful area, from family and friends and most importantly your husbands steady, good paying job (especially in this economy!) just for a per diem position.

I wouldn't do it. I have a full time job, but also a per diem job on the side. Although I usually get all of the hours I sign up for (which is only about 24 a month), I've been put on call for every shift I've signed up for over the last 6 weeks. But, thats just the way the census goes sometimes-up and down; this has happened several times over the four years I've been with the per diem job. You'll likely be the first person put on call when low census strikes so you really don't want to uproot your family for such a shaky position. Five months seems like forever, but like others have said, this job really isn't worth the relocation at this point.

Per diem is not steady enough to uproot your family. In today's world you can 't move that far on if, and or maybe....You need steady not just for you but for your family. I say keep looking in your area or at the most a hour commute from your home no more than that...

do it, you need your foot in the door, then you can quit and apply somewhere else with a 6 month experience or so, you'll get a better chance....

Uproot her family for part time. No benefits. Pass this one up but tell them why you are passing it up. They might just find you a full time position. It's happen to me a couple of times.
