i am interested to hear what floor nurses favorite shoes are at this time. i especially want to hear from the over 40 year old crowd. right now i have shape ups, which tire my legs out terribly and have thrown off my balance and posture, but don't hurt my feet after 12 hours. or i have saucony running shoes which kill my feet. any suggestions?

Dansko or Sanita clogs.

I have some Shape Ups but only use them for walking recreationally. I wore them to work once and they hurt my legs big time.

I've heard z-coils are excellent but they are really pricey.

I have shape ups after a few weeks of wearing them my legs don't hurt anymore and my feet feel great at the end of a shift I would highly recommend em!

I swear by Dansko and have two pairs. I'm working on my third. I have had no foot problems at all.

I also wear compression socks, so no problems with my legs either.

I had major pain in my arches and heels. I could barely get up in the morning and walk to the bathroom without hurting. I had gone to New Balance and the guy measured my foot and I got an insert to help with arch support. He even said that I had a slightly wider foot than the normal shoes so he gave me a shoe with a slighter wider width. I loveeee my new balance- and I'm on my feet for hoursss. I know walmart has those kiosk that have the orthopedic inserts and you can stand on it and it will show you where you have the most pressure on your feet. Anyhow... good luck with finding a decent pair of running shoes for work!

I love love love my Shape Ups. My feet used to ache terrible on the drive home after a 12 and now they do not. If you get used to them a little you will prob not even notice the calf or balance thing.

Shape ups are awesome for your feet and wreck your knees. Google it if you don't believe me. They are an orthopedic surgeon's retirement fund due to knee hyperextension.

I have bad feet, arthritis, bunions. I really like my Nike Airs, and I have Dr Scholl's in both shoes. I don't even feel my feet.

i've had my shape ups for over a year--have been thru 2 pairs, but now am finding out my skeletal alignment is suffering. so beware. neck and back have all been out of whack because of these, and our physical therapists at work tell us to avoid them.

I don't work 12 hour shifts anymore, but have had to shop around for shoes. I was at the physical therapist for my shoulder and because I was also having some leg pain (lateral side of my lower leg) with walking and asked him about my feet and recommendations for shoes. I walk on the outside of my feet, so shape ups don't give me the support I need. So a good pair of running shoes and orthotics (like from REI) is what he recommended.

OP, if shape ups are causing you to lose balance, I wonder if you have the same walking style as I do. Perhaps give the orthotics a try - they are more pricey than the Sholl's, but my PT said to stay away from those :)

sas shoes are the best. made in san antonio texas, I buy 2 pair every year, they are wonderful . these are the shoes your patient wears when they become older (lol). I have wide feet and only ones I can wear all day.

Wear comfortable shoes dont go with style, when youve done this 20 years youll be glad.

Alegria! Those teamed with compression socks and I'm good to go. Well worth the price.
