Ever 3 years the exam is reviewed and changes are made. This year (April) the exam for RN changes and becomes slightly harder. All information can be found under the news section of NCSBN website

Since you have taken the test before and have been diligently preparing, you could reschedule to take the test the last week in March to make it easier on yourself.

Hello everyone here,

My exam will be next week, but thinking of rescheduling it due to some reason.I am bothered with the April 1st changes, that they are talking about.

What are really the changes that will take place? Is the exam becomes harder? or what?

Needs some ideas, so I can decide which way to go.

Thanks for some thoughts you may know.

The passing standard is increasing .05 logits (don't know how much that is), management of care is being increased while reduction of risk potential is being decreased. Heart/lung sounds are being added as well. NCSBN describes the changes as "minimal." Hope this helps :)

They are also increasing the amount of analysis questions they give, which tends to be the harder questions

You would do well to take it next week. If you don't pass you can worry about the changes later. Hopefully, you will pass and save yourself the aggravation.

this article gave a little bit more insight as to what/how the test may change - perhaps be of assistance to those yet to test? - good luck!

"...Kaplan Nursing test preparation services reviews its test prep course every three years based on how the NCSBN decides to change the exam. "We review our questions to determine if the questions discriminate at a higher level and meet the needs of the revised NCLEX-
RN
test plan," says Barbara Irwin,
RN
, BSN, director of nursing for Kaplan Nursing. The new standards will require students to be prepared to answer higher level questions that require more analysis. For example, a question might describe several patients and ask who the nurse should see first. The student might say all of them, which is not necessarily wrong, but the correct response would be that the most acute patient needs to be seen first, Irwin says.

Other changes that will take place on the NCLEX in April include increased emphasis on the management of care subcategory, Irwin says. The NCSBN defines management of care as providing and directing nursing care that enhances the care delivery setting to protect clients, family/significant others and healthcare personnel.

The test will reduce emphasis on the subcategory of reduction of risk potential, defined as reducing the likelihood that clients will develop complications or health problems related to existing conditions, treatments or procedures..."

Is this the APRIL TEST TAKERS THREAD? I've been looking for one. I am taking it this month, no definite date yet.

Good luck to all of us.
