I really don't know what to do

Our community college "hopes to soon offer a part-time program for working students that combines online lectures with campus or community clinic-based labs. The "hybrid" program will allow students to complete an associate's degree in nursing in 12 quarters rather than the current 6 quarters."

The college campus based RN program is really good and I believe that the "hybrid" program will be great too.

I am stuck and can't decide what to do. I have really good GPA, experience as a CNA in nursing home, and in the hospital too.

I took already online classes with success. I enjoy taking them too!

This program might be a good idea because during school I can work at least part time or maybe even full time while working on my RN degree. However, I am really afraid of that it is going to be harder then taking classes on Campus

On one hand, I would love to get my RN as soon as possible. In other hand, if I will decide to take this hybrid program, I would do it because of my husband. He wouldn't have to work extra hours to support us, he would have time for himself and wouldn't be tired all the time like he was during last year when I was full time student.

What would you do/consider when trying to make a decision like that?

Hmm, well thats a tough situation. I can see pro's and cons to both the hybrid and regular way. I'm taking 3 hybrid classes right now and they are very hard. You basically have to teach your self everything. No one to explain anything, no one to ask questions to (unless you wanna wait 2 days for an email). much different thatn online classes. But if you did do hybrid, you would be able to provide income so your husband could be home more, but you may get burnt out of school after 12 semesters.

If I had to choose, I would go with the regular 6 quarter way. When I start N.S. in a few months, thats what I'm going to do. Just buckle down, power through and just get the 4 semesters over with (my school RN program is only 4 semesters) My husband is just going to pick up the slack for 15 months and when those 15 months are over, I'll be making like 5 times more than I make now. You should probably just have a talk with your hubby, go over finances, decide if you can make it off of 1 income, make a pro's and cons list ect... I don't think there is a right or wrong choice here, just figuring out what works for you guys best. Let us know what you choose and best of luck with everything!!!

I also think that this is a decision the two of you need to make together. I will say that I am taking pathophysiology and pharmacology online as part of my BSN program and it's tough to teach this stuff to yourself! I much prefer the lecture environment to online, but that's just a matter of preference. It is doable though, and it sounds like if you were able to work part time then both you and your husband might have a little bit more balance in your lives. I think it comes down to what kind of sacrifices each of you are willing to make. Best of luck to you!

I am actually taking pre-reqs at this school and am also considering enrolling in the hybrid RN program (though I will be applying for the second cohort.) I am curious which way you decided? I have to keep my job so the face to face session is not an option for me.

My experience of online classes:

• Not harder (obviously because they are they same subject matter and competencies as regular classes.
  
• Much more time consuming.
  
• The instructors made up "busy work" so we had to post all sorts of remarks referring to other classmates remarks/assignments.
  
• Instructors seem to be a bit clueless about how to adjust their teaching/communication style to suit the online situations.
  
• You should expect to be almost entirely self taught.
  

When I was doing face to face classes I enjoyed them much more on so many levels. That being said I am taking advanced pathophys online this summer. I hate to do this stuff online but I want it out of the way.

Oh yes, I did not find the online more convenient either. I think that is a myth about online classes.

Having been in a normal program, I would jump at the chance to take this hybrid program. The money, time, and aggravation saved would be worth it.
