i have a question for you all. i posted a few weeks ago about having a telephone interview scheduled for a position as a new grad on an l&d floor. well, the problem is that the unit manager doesn't seem to keep her appointments. this was the second time i had scheduled to talk with her, and she did not call. turns out she was going on vacation. the previous time she had an "emergency". so, once again, i am scheduled to hear from her "sometime this week." my question is this: do unit managers usually schedule a broad range of times when they can potentially contact you?? do they regularly book interviews when they know they will be on vacation?? this has me freaking out because this particular job is the one that i really want. my husband seems to think that they obviously don't need nurses on that unit or they would call. this will be my first interview for a new grad position. so, what do you all think? am i over reacting??? thanks for your time and your ears!!!

Quite rude and unprofessional! I haven't ever had a telephone interview, most prospective employers would want to see who they are interviewing. I would submit applications at other facilities that have jobs you are interested in. Seems to me that person wouldn't be a very good manager!

I have done phone interviews and they were always a set time like friday at 9 am, not somtime this week. I would rethink going to a floor with a flaky manager like that...

If the manager is this unorganized at this stage of the game, I would be very wary ..... Imagine how the floor must be run??

Nurses are in demand ~ I would certainly pursue other options. Just my opinion.

I agree with the above. Look elsewhere. Someone that careless with appointments and first impressions is NO ONE I want to work with! Really there ARE other jobs out there. This lady cannot be running a tight ship there.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. I have started looking for other places to apply already! If you know of any L&D positions for new grads, especially in WARM places, I would appreciate it if you could pass the info along. Thanks for making me feel like I am not completely crazy to actually expect someone to call when they say they will!!

She sounds like a poor manager. I wouldn't waste my time with her. Doesn;t sound like a good place to work. The manager sets the tone for the unit (unfortunately)! I have first hand experience with that!

The nurse manager is obviously not interested in you either as a person or a nurse, and her lack of courtesy and professionalism bespeaks her treatment of the staff she already has, the turnover she probably already has, as well as her lack of interest for the patients or any conflicts, questions or concerns you might have...Say so long......It isn't worth it......You want a good experience and you will need one to become a proficient labor and delivery nurse.......You deserve to be interviewed and taken seriously.....
