I do not do well in Patho class even do my best. I am very upset since I heard if you get a C in this class you won't be able to specialize in any area you want. Is it true? Any answers are highly appreciated

I highly doubt any hospital is going to require you to turn in proof of your patho grade before they offer you a job in a speciality.

I've never heard of someone being denied entrance in to a specific area based on a grade. Your only concern is passing the class so you don't get kicked out of school- if you don't graduate you certainly won't be able to go in to any specialty at all!

Are there tutoring/remediation resources you can try to take advantage of?

Not one of the places I applied as a new grad cared what my patho grade had been. Not one. Having said that, patho is a building block for almost all the other classes, so doing poorly in that might make your life harder on down the road, either in school or at work.

Patho is not an easy class. It ain't for sissies. I know I busted my butt in that class and still wound up with a B-minus. If you are really having trouble with it, go talk to your instructor. S/he will likely be willing to go over your problem area(s) one-on-one or suggest more efficent ways to study.

It might effect your placement for your preceptorship....which could make it harder to start in a specialty that you want.

For example, you're more likely to get a job in an ED as a new grad if you did your preceptorship in an ED. I know that certain preceptor placements are very competitive in our school....a C in patho, would likely keep you out of a high acuity placement in my school.

Thanks a lot to everybody. I always try to do my best in anything I do. i know I am studying very hard, but I had some health problems in my family, so I think it affected my concentration. I am struggling, and trying to get a good grade. My goal was not just pass a class, but do well and keep my GPA up. However, I cannot change anything, and have to move on. I appreciate everyones support.

don't fret over patho. it's a very hard class. the instructor I had for patho is extremely intelligent and REALLY knows her stuff, and she told us she got a C in patho the very first time she took it.

I agree, I don't think that your final grade in patho is going to influence what specialty you go into. My problem was that I took it last semester and missed the passing percentage by 4% (still alot) and it prevented me from moving onto Foundations because it was a prerequisite. That just about killed me because it pushed my finish date out three months. I am now aproaching midterms with an 'A' in the class and I'm almost grateful for retaking it. I am getting a better grasp on the alterations and dysfunctions of the systems and I think that when I get to Med Surg I won't struggle as much as I thought I would. Just keep your head up and really try to understand the concepts and you will be A-OK! :)
