I am working on a presentation on myths and legend in the emergency. Any ideas of such or where I could find could documentation to back my saying??

Not sure exactly what you mean.....about how ERs work? Or quack symptoms and cures?

Are you talking about layman misbeliefs or something different? Like you'll get treated faster if you come by ambulance or never say the word QUIET in the ER (okay, that one really is true, though)?

Are you kidding? Intermediate Care/Fastrac type patients who call an ambulance get sent out to triage to wait with everyone else in my ER. When we're backlogged, even the EMS pts who are truly ill have to sometimes wait several hours (while still on EMS stretcher, they're not even offloaded) as we juggle who's sickest..and its not rare that a pt coming in from the lobby is sicker than the EMS pt and bumps them.

If you have an organ donor card, they'll let you die to get your liver.

Don't say the word "quiet" - you will anger the "trauma gods"

Sometimes, we lay out an amp of lido near the bedside and or wave it around to ward off "evil spirits".

Any downtime is the "lull before the storm."

Always leave at least one patient name on the ER board or you will fill every room within an hour. (When you have on of those rare PFZs(Patient Free Zone) going on.

Always keep a critical patient's feet warm so they won't die in the ER.

There are a lot of psych patients or patients with psych issues..."It must be a full moon"
