Does your company pay for CPR certification?

Mine doesn't!

I just went through orientation for a new job and was given a list of CPR cert/recert dates. The cost to all employees is $20. I kept my mouth shut. Fortunately, I am not due to recert until the spring. At that point, I will probably have to say something about it, because I don't think it's right.

What do you all think?

THAT REALLY SUCKS...THE COMPANY I WORK FOR PAYS FOR IT.....I THINK IF THE COMPANY REQUIRES THEIR EMPLOYEES TO BE CPR CERTIFIED THEN THEY SHOULD PAY FOR IT.......BUT THEN AGAIN THAT WOULD BE IN AN IDEAL WORLD.....HEHEHEHEHEHE!

Yikes! I think they should pay for it! One of my former jobs had it incuded for orientation and payed you for your hourly wage. Now that I am agency, one of my agencies includes a free class but on your own time.

No they don't, nor do they provide classes to get recertified, have to go elsewhere. They do require that we have it, though.

Yes, they should pay. The hospital I work at pays for it, provides the class, and pays you for the time it takes to recert. I don't believe that is all that unusual. I'd be complaining!

Well, along the same lines, does your company pay the renewal fee for your RN license? Didn't think so.

It is my understanding that companies can pay for, and/or provide CPR renewal courses if they wish, but since the certificate is the nurse's and part of his/her professional qualifications, it needn't do so. Some of my previous employers have provided it, others have not.

It is usually easier for me to set up my own anyway, on my own schedule, and get one that is good for 2 years. But then again, I usually prefer to do things myself anyway, rather than depending on someone else.

Mine pays for the CPR recert (but I have to find my own class) and my malpractice insurance. I pay for my license renewal.

A previous place that I worked for had a CPR day twice a year; employees had all day to complete the stations, could come and go as time permitted, and it cost $20 which most of the departments paid.

Ours offer CPR cert days as well (no charge). If you don't make it to the offered times, then you have to find your own class at your own expense.

Not only does mine pay for CPR. ACLS, CCRN, and any classes you want to sign up for, it will pay you the hourly wage to attend. I have been to 2 cardiac symposiums, last one at the cleveland clinic... I payed for the seminar but received a full weeks pay while in the classes!

Maybe I could whine about that one, too! Don't think I would get my way, though.... :chuckle

Mine pays too.....CPR and ACLS. We also get a $200 educational allowance each year for symposiums, books, magazines, etc. Not sure about license renewal though, it would be great if they did.

This, indeed, varies from place to place. All three of the hospitals I've been employed at over the years provide CPR certification & pay the employee to attend. I have rec'd my ACLS certification & recert. while working.

I've heard of an insurance company (we have a few here) that even pays for the RN's licenses! Be still my heart, who woulda thunk it?

they pay for , cpr, acls, pals, (the nicu one? is it nals?), tncc, micn......were supposed to pay for my cen and didn't.

however, now, we get a bonus every 3rd quarter of the year for a specialty cert (i.e. cen, ccrn, etc etc). it's about $325?
