How does a new grad get a job in this state?

I am a new grad and everywhere I went looking for a job they told me they didn't have time to train. How do I go about getting exerience to get a job if noone will give me the chance?

Well there are internships available in our area of Nevada. Reno has three hospitals that are more than welcome to hire new grads. unless you're in Las Vegas .. which is an area i do not know about.

Where are you at in Nevada? Vegas is jobs open left and right (especially Sunrise and Valley). I can't imagine them pushing new grads away.

I am in Reno, but it just doesn't seem like anyone wants to give me the time of day. I applied at Renown, and I went to different skilled nursing homes, applied at the VA.

Are you a new RN, LPN, or CNA grad?

Hmm i wonder why Renown wouldn't give you the time of day. Did you apply for multiple positions as an RN? We have so many open positions it's not even funny. They have an internship program that allows new grads to incorporate into the unit they apply for (I.E Medical Nephrology, Telemetry, GSU, Neurology, Etc)

I am a new lpn.

HI, This is Kitt

I am in MN and here most of our new LPN's start in LTC or in assisted living. Our smaller hospitals use all RN staff.

I started as an LPN and got right on a Med-surg station but at that time there was a shortage.

I would continue to send out apps, resumes, make cold calls and call back. If you get the interview, send the thank you note. As a nurse manager I always appreciated hearing from the candidates.

Don't give up.

Respectfully

Kitt

I don't know much about Renown, but at Saint Mary's and NNMC, LPNs in hospital units are few and far between. I recall seeing one at Saints in SDS and one at NNMC in Med/Tele.

I googled "LPN Reno" and got some results for job openings around town at various facilities.

Good luck! :)

I'm in LV & am having trouble finding a job also! Guess it's time to "pound the pavement" once again! I've been looking for over a month now & I already have my license! & yes, I do interview well. There just isn't the lg # of positions available anymore. And Sunrise Hosp. isn't hiring new grads since they were dropped by Sierra Health Care.

Is Sunrise just not hiring new LPN's, or are they not hiring new RN's either?

I think they are still hiring LPN's, but I'd call & ask the HR dept though.

And YES I am STILL looking & hoping! AGRRRRR! My student loans are now out of grace period & I have to apply for a forebarence (I have a pt job as a CPR instructor).

I have 1 hopeful & went & applied to 4 more hospitals today. Already heard back from Summerlin... they have reached their quote for new grads. Guess it's better to hear back right away rather then sitting around & waiting to hear something!

Pray for me... I'm tried of crying & hoping to hear something.

Gotta' keep my chin up & the depression pushed to the back.

Still dreaming nursing dreams.........

[i keep thinking about putting an ad out... & my DH is threatening to call the local news & spill the misnomer that there is truely a nursing shortage here in Vegas]

UPDATE:

Still looking & finally a few possible hopefuls on the horizon

I never though I'd have to work this hard at finding a job @ a time when nursing is supposed to be having a shortage!
