Okay, I know what ya'll are thinking....another post about nurse's eating thier young......

No this goes in a different direction...yet the same in a way.

I have noticed this over the years and just want your feedback.

Yes there is competition between seasoned nurses and new nurses, nurses and CNA's and I have seen lots of friction between surgical tech's, respiratory tech's, x-ray tech's , PT's...hell, even the houskeeping personnel,

but have you ever had to call the local rescue squad for say a nursing home patient ? The EMT's there do it to us to. I had the occasion to call 911 for a person who had fallen and had a possible fx hip.

They came and were quite "uppity" with me. Like I had no brain at all.

The did not want to talk with me nor did they want any transport information regarding the patient. This was not the first time we had to call them and they were arrogant then as well. I see this arrogance throughout the nursing/health profession. What's up with that. I guess I was in a dream workd when I thougt we would support/compliment each other's specialized

positions. Huh...was I wrong !

Are you transporting by private EMS? Or by fire dept?

And on the flipside, nursing thinks their poop doesn't stink and that all other departments need to serve them immediately becaues we provide direct patient care. How many times does the nurse gripe "what the heck are they doing in pharmacy today, I need my meds now!", "housekeeping is so slow and lazy and I need this room cleaned, where are they?", "administration cares nothing about us, but the bottom line", "those silly interns and residents don't know a thing about taking care of patients"., "I can't believe radiology techs make so much money, when we're more important and we work the hardest".........................

I'm just taking a guess here, but if that's LAFD, there are squads that have MAJOR attittude. And it's kind of funny how attitude is indirectly proportional to skill level. I know that in the past we have had to chat with their captains about these kind of problems.

Yes, it's done across the board......but I would venture to say very few look from others prospective, especially when their patient is screamin for meds.... We should be mindful that others have their jobs to do & have their own set of issues. In a perfect world...............we all get along

I guess I worked with nicer people than some of you. PT was always wonderful, pharmacy is a busy place and every phone call they receive is someones Rx that is delayed for that call. Dietary was a little iffy, but I'd bet ours was above average. RT was fantastic. I did get a little miffed at ER once in awhile, PACU was pretty good, but I don't recall ever having a problem with EMS/transports etc. Could it be everyone is concentrating too much on having their way as the primary need of the day?

That old "catch more flies with honey".....not that I have any fondness for vermin you understand.

I have encountered a couple of nasty paramedics, but then I've encountered nasty nurses too.

As to departments and in fighting, I suppose nursing starts blaming everyone for things because the patients blame nursing for everyone elses mistakes. ie; why can't I have my pain pill, my television set doesn't work, this food tastes awful, didn't you tell the Dr he needs to see me etc, when we are not responsible for those mistakes.

Were they EMT's or paramdics. I have met many an EMT who acted like they knew it all. It almost seems like the lack of educational background is somehow directly related to increased attitude. I also notice a difference in volunteer departments and full time departments.

However, on their side, I know most medics believe that the LTC facilities call and give excellent reports to the ER and so they think they need minimal information for transports. Not that that excuses them.
