Help! I will be graduating with my RN this coming December. I would like to get a job but the 12 hour hospital shifts just don't work for me and my family since i have two little kids and one on the way. What are some good options for moms?

The 12 hour shifts don't work for everyone whether they have children or not. Have you checked if there are hospitals in your area that have 8-hour shifts? I know in our area there are hospitals as well as positions that are eight hour shifts.

Plenty of moms work 12 hr shifts. I thought I'd work 3x 12 hr shifts/wk, because most Acute care facilities in my area staff this way.

The good thing about 12s is you have 4 days off each week to spend with your kids--ok--the first day off may be spent sleeping!

I ended up working at an Acute care hospital that staffs for 8 hr shifts. I like it and it works, also.

The 8 hour shifts are in the clinics. You will have no problem finding plenty of clinic jobs.

I don't know where you live, but the state mental hospitals in Texas offer 8-hour shifts (AM, PM, and overnight). Something to consider--plus awesome benefits and all government holidays off.

I will say that plenty of nurses with children and families successfully worked 12-hour shifts when I was in acute care. Some even said it was better family-wise since they had a three-day work week rather than working five days.

I volunteer in two hospitals in my area and the majority of nurses are on 8 hour shifts. I have kids and am actually hoping to find 12s after I get through school bc it's more days home with your kids. For instance, med surg and L&D all are on 8 hour shifts.

(Med surg and L&D at the hospitals where I volunteer, obviously. I know its not the same at every hospital).
