Young Nurses

so what's the youngest you guys have seen or heard of?

I started nursing school right out of high school, so at 17..my birthday is in July, so got into college at 18 and graduated last May at 21. Took and passed my boards at 22. I've had comments from patients that I look younger than my age. I once asked a patient if I looked like I was 14 or 15. She said that I didn't look older than 18. But then I've also had patients ask me if I'm married... So I guess I must look old enough to marry!

Ugh. I'm 22 and a month and a half from graduating the LVN program. I am a little nervous because alot of the people I'll be working with . . . trained me when I was 16 as I came to work as an aide. I don't know how its going to go over . . . really.

I'm 38 and still get people telling me that I look twenty. Those who say it, are always surprised to find out that I didn't fall off the turnip truck yesterday.

I became a nurse when I was just 17. I started "nursing school" at age 13. I think that it all depends on the individual and the maturity level. If the maturity level is high that more than likely the young nurse can acchieve. I had no problems starting in nursing at such a young age......of course people didn't believe me when I said I was only 17...I have always acted more mature...but then again...I have other's lives in my hands

there's a program here for a select few who can get their lpn while still in high school.

i worked with a homeschooled woman who got her associates degree at age 18 because she graduated highschool when she was 16. my honest opinion was that she was a good nurse technically. but her red highlights and nose ring spoke to me of her immaturity. she also came to a staff meeting with a halter top on and couldn't understand when the manager wrote her up. (yes we're florida, but to show up at your employers with your boobs nearly exposed makes me wonder).

yes, i know i'll get flamed with the "what does that have to do with her nursing skills" and i'm ready for that.

I look young. when i become a nurse im sure i'll hear comments like it all the time!
