I just applied for my first nursing job ever!!
I've been trying to become a nurse for about 10 years, life kept getting in the way- so this is a VERY big moment for me!! We are moving out of state and I talked to the nurse recruiter at the hospital closest to where I will be living and she said to check the website starting in mid February for their graduate nurse positions, and so every day I've been checking for the past couple of weeks. Just checked tonight and it was posted.... so I've officially applied!!
I know it probably seems small, but its a big deal to me, and had to share!
Now, I have a question- they are having a recruiting dinner in a little over a week. It would be really difficult for me to make it, as its on a Tuesday evening, and I have class Tuesdays until 330, so I'd end up missing class, and would have to fly back that night so I could be at clinical in the morning. Will it hurt my chances at getting a job if I don't go? I plan on calling the nurse recruiter tomorrow and asking, also, but wondered what everyone's opinion would be here... Thanks!!

1st off Congrats!!!! How exciting, a move and possibly a new JOB!!!! WOW I bet you are THRILLED.
Email or better yet call the nurse recruiter and explain that you have clinical/class on that date and unfortunately as ,much as you hate to miss it, school comes 1st right now.
She will appreciate your honesty and dedication to school.
Then let her know the dates you will be in "what ever city it is" and tell her you would love to schedule a face to face meeting and possibly get a tour of the facility. ~~~~~ plus this guarantees you some one and one time with the recruiter vs being one of many at the dinner.

Congrats and I would call the nursing recruiter and tell her the situation that you are in and tell her that you would love to be there and meet everyone but you unfortunately have class and clinicals to attend
