Written up.

Hi, I just had a quick question. Recently I got my first write up. I admit it's my fault, I thought I documented but I didn't. I did write a late entry later but anyways this is my first write up ever. Ever since then I've just become terrified. Mainly because I was told if I 'mess up one more time then I'm fired.' This is the first time I've ever gotten in trouble, I was only talked to once but that was for a co-worker that wasn't working, and even that was just a simple 'watch your workers a little closer.'

I don't know if this was meant to be a scare tactic or what but if it was- it sure worked. I'm terrified of losing my job now over any stupid mistake.

We have been experiencing the same lack of respect where I work. We have new management and an even newer DON that has made that threat to many of my coworkers, and she has made 'good' on that threat, too. Many of my coworkers are gone. I got into trouble last month and was disciplined for it, she did threaten to let me go but instead took me off my floor (rehab/20 pts) and put me on a heavier dementia floor. I have been working my whole shift without a break to get everything done (40 pts/1nurse). I unhappily put my notice in the other day at this rehab/ltc after working there for 22 years.

Don't forget your pension, freeze it and go to you new job

I've seen so many posts about people getting written up! I'm so glad it doesn't seem to be common on my floor. I've only heard of a few times people have gotten written up during the past 6 months & it has not been nurse on nurse. Most recently it was an MD reporting an RN for not applying SCD's that were ordered & an RN reporting pharmacy for sending up fluids with the wrong KCL amt for a pt. Not that a nurse would never report another nurse, but it seems like mistakes & oversights are pointed out to each other in person & only especially significant events get written up.

To Err is human , so I will only write up if the error would have caused harm to the patient ! , I am not going to write anybody up for anything less as any write up puts that persons livlihood at risk , so it effects their whole family . To me just because somebody has not dotted all the i's / crossed all the t's is not a reason to write them up .I simply do not understand the mentality of those nurse who write up their colleagues frivolously .
