Would you take a second Calc Test after you have already passed the first one as the requirement?
One of my synthesis teachers questioned me on whether or not I took the second calc exam. Seems as though I passed the first one to her surprise.
You see I missed two questions giving me a 92 under the 95% requirement, but when I reviewed the test I found that it was misgraded and I had the OTHER teacher give me credit unbeknownst to the first one.
Should I let them fight it out? And should I refuse to take it again?
They want you to get a 95% which I did before you start clinical......HB
I have already completed 16 hours of preceptorship......

No, not if it was misgraded. Can you get the second teacher to talk to the first one?
I'm just concerned if the teacher who graded it sees it differently than the one who corrected it............Then I have to prove my point all over again and possibly lose.................HB:angryfire

I thought answers to math questions were either right or wrong?
The answer was 0.6 hr I forget how the problem goes..........
I said the answer was 0.6hr and under it I said it equaled approx 40min.
The second teacher who actually changed the grade said the answer should have been 0.666 hour and the answer should not be rounded.
I explained to her that teacher # 1 said 0.6 hour was acceptable.
I think its a little too late to take another exam if I already have started clinical. Unless they want to give me a hard time over it...........Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaasssssssssssssssseeeeeeeeee!!!

Are you calculating hours or meds?
40 minutes is = to 0.666 hrs (not 0.6 which is 36 min).
If your calculating meds, the the answer would be 0.67.
(This is according to my schools rounding rules. Your school may differ.)
Regardless, the instructor said she was accepting 0.6 hr.
Even if 0.666 hr. = 40 minutes
I also put 40minutes as my final answer.
I did not say 0.6hr - 40 minutes knowing that was incorrect. I wrote 0.6hr and then under I said 40min. My calc. said 0.666 but in the end SHE said she would accept 0.6hr.
So if she wants to take back her word, then what does that say?
Give me a break!! HB

You mentioned you had already started clinical....is this an issue because they might pull you out of it?
If it became a huge deal, I would gladly take the test again because I would not let one test get in the way of everything.
Good luck and let us know how it goes for you!

I'm confused... Was the answer 0.666 and you rounded to 0.6? Because that is incorrect. 0.666 should be rounded up not down. So... the correct answer is 0.7, that would make both you AND both instructors wrong. This makes no sense. The minutes would than be... 42 minutes. What was the original problem?
Take the test again... Sounds simpler than this mess.

I'd just drag my feet and act dumb on the whole situation. It sounds like this is a matter of opinion between two people. Stay out of it and let them duke it out. As far as you're concerned, you were told you passed. End of story.
They must tell you their rounding rules before the exam or getting the "right" answer is luck of the draw. If they did not then you have a legitimate gripe.
At my school we rounded to one significant figure.
40 minutes is 0.6666666666666666666666666666666 to infinity hours.
Hey all,
At the beg. of THIS exam they did not mention anything about rounding. BUT on prev. exams they had told us to round to the nearest tenth.
This one teacher said 0.6h was acceptable so that's what I went with.
When I questioned, I was with the second teacher who said not to round but leave it at 0.666666 or whatever. I also had 40 min which technically works too.
My concern is that if teacher 1 decides she wants to go back on what she said (0.6h acceptable) then this makes her look bad. And if she goes against the other passing me, it makes the other one look bad for passing me. Looks like their credibility is on the line. (They are both DNSC's)
I am not so much against taking another exam- only that I had to wait four hours for this second teacher to be available so I could look at the first exam. If I take it a second time, that is more time out of where I could be spending valuable clinical time. It wasn't like I was that far away from competency - 92 the first time and with correction - 95. That's one problem. Or half a problem in this case.
We'll see what happens. Last semester I had an issue with the same teacher who used 65 mg for gr. which is right but 60mg is also correct in which I used and it was incorrect. She probably doesn't like the fact I got the other teacher to agree with me. Why can't we have one teacher?
UGH!!!:rotfl:
Also, this is the same teacher who forgot to have me sign my Peds Clinical eval. I have mentioned it twice, Do I keep bugging her for it? I did pass it....
