Worth It?

I will have at least a year to a year and a half wait to be considered for getting accepted for LPN school. I am having a lot of second thoughts if nursing is even worth it.

In the mean time I have to work as an aide. Not thrilled.

Can you apply to any other LPN schools?

There is another college about 45 mnutes away. But I want to live at home so I dont have to pay rent. But technically, I COULD drive to the college that is further away. But I still wouldnt get in THERE until next year.

And as a retired R.N....is nursing worth it?

I you don't like being a Nurse Aide then you may rethink LPN because you get to do all the things a Aide does plus pass med, Tx, Orders, Charting, ect.

These are some of the truest words I have seen written! :chuckle

I wouldn't be thrilled to work as an aide either. That's why I went to school. Maybe OP wasn't thrilled with the pay, or has limited choices of where to work as an aide.

I must disagree with this.

As an aide, if we had 50 patients and one aide and two LPN's, the LPN's STILL did not pitch in and help me change and turn people. They only did so if they wanted to, but they weren't required to.

Going back to the point.... yes-nursing is worth it. I started as an STNA in a nursing home, and went back to get my LPN 4 years ago. There were MANY times that my previous experiences helped me. From knowing different conditions to just flat out being more comfortable around different people. Takes alot to freak me out now. :)

Where are you going to be and what are you going to be doing in a year to a year and a half, but the time is going to pass regardless. Are you going to be better off than an LPN, if so then go for that something else if it will make you happy.
