Working while in nursing school?

Hi Everybody,

Right now I'm waiting to get into a RN program, I was wondering how many of us out there are going to try to work while in school? I have two children ages 5 and 9. I am hoping just to work a few days a week, how about you????

I ahve 3 kids 16-8

I originally was not going to work during nursing school, however we are currently on one income due to my knee surgery, and I don't think I want us to be so short on cash for two years! I have decided to work every other weekend, which is enough to help out with a few bills so we have that extra money to keep our standard of living (aka my poor fiance being able to go do things on his few days off work).

I'm in my second semester and work two days a week. I'm looking to cut back because I still don't feel like I have enough time to handle everything they're throwing at me. :uhoh21:

I am a mom of a 2 year old AND I work full-time. I will continue to work as we need both mine and my husbands incomes. We cannot survive on just one. So, I will make it work. He will be taking care of my daughter while in nursing school for the most part and I have family to fall back on as well.

I have thought about looking at jobs at a hospital and maybe cutting back on my hours, but we'll see how it all goes!!!

Best of luck to everyone - where there is a will, there's a way!

Someone above me said it best "Where theres a will, theres a way."

I am currently in school Mon - Thursday. As Soon as I get home from school my husband is off to work and I am home with my 7 yr old & 1 yr old!! Im Off Friday, and work two 12 hour shifts on Sunday. Luckily, Working my 12 hour shifts, I get paid for 40 hours ( i think its called a Baylor weekend , or something)

Good Luck with your endeavors!!

Hmmm...sounds like my kind of job!!! That is awesome!!!

If I didn't have to work I wouldn't. I would love to not work and just attend school full time during the day. Unfortunately my family is reliant upon my salary and my hubby and daughter are on my health insurance. Maybe we'll win the lotto before I start nursing classes!

Ahhhhh...wouldn't that be great!!!??? Then we would have NO worries, right??? :lol2:

I hear ya on the health insurance...I am in the same boat. I carry mine for me, my husband and my daughter as well.

OMG it is so good to find someone who can relate! Are you in nursing school right now? I'm so afraid of all the time nursing school will take away from my job and that I'll get canned. What would I do then?

I am not in Nursing School just yet, but hoping to start in the Spring (I am done with all other classes at this point). I know I have read several posts though of people who were in the same situation and made it!! My friend worked full-time and graduated over a year ago, so I know it can be done!! My biggest concern is my family though...I know this will take away from a lot of things including them!!

We have a good support system here though I think...finding ways to make it work. Just have to be creative I think!

Good luck and PM me if you want!!! I'm around!

I'm a junior in a BSN program. I'm currently working 24 hours/week (2-12 hour shifts). I'm married, but no kids. Not easy, but it works for me right now.

Good Luck to you...:balloons:

Diane

PS A well organized planner and several different colors of highlighters (different colors for each class) have definitely helped me.
